January 20,1956 was a blustery frigid day in Gravelbourg Saskatchewan and that’s the day Lionel chose to enter this world. He was the eldest of four children; son of Aime and Annette Bouvier. His formative years were spent at Le College Mathieu. After graduating from high school, Lionel enrolled in the journeyman carpentry program at SIAST in Moose Jaw.

Lionel pursued many passions during the years that followed. Scuba diving and trips to diving destinations became a source of great pride mixed with a heightened sense of anticipation and adventure. His unwavering love of music, attending concerts and amassing a massive collection of vinyl records were part and parcel of his heart and soul. Our cabin at Gaumond Bay was a haven for all of us. We relished our Sunday afternoons with the Bouvier Clan where we spent countless hours swimming in the lake, fishing and boating. Lionel took to water like the ducks that patrolled our shores. He excelled in the sport of water skiing to the point of having lift off with one ski on, in a seated position at the end of the dock.

Lionel and his father spent many hours working from dawn till dusk in the fields at the Coppen Farm. Talks about crop rotation, crop choices and of course harvesting the bountiful grains of their labour became daily conversations. Lionel dedicated countless hours volunteering in his community. He was an active member of the Lions Club, caretaker/ice maker at the curling rink, and assisting with fund raising efforts for Ducks Unlimited Canada.

Going for long and aimless country drives on the back roads with Annette behind the wheel became a source of pure delight for him. Afternoon tea with his Mom at the Villa became ritualistic. Hunting with Bobby was a real big deal adventure. The morning Coffee Row gathering with his cherished gang of buddies was the highlight of his day. Lionel was a proud and devoted Blue Jays fan, even when his team suffered a loss. "Go Blue Jays Go” was his familiar retrain during ball season. Lionel passed away peacefully on the eve of June 9, 2025, with his best beloved and cherished Annette holding his hand. “The Beatles” greatest hits played softly in the background. There was a full moon illuminating the prairie sky. He was 69 years young.

Lionel leaves to mourn his faithful and tender companion, Annette L’Heureux who was stalwart in her devotion and compassion towards him during their short time together. As well Lionel leaves behind his dear mother, Annette Bouvier; sisters Jocelyne Bouvier (Bill), Gisele Gignac (Ray), and Colette Mayo (Trevor): eight treasured nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly remembered by Annette’s sons: Daniel (Goldie), David, Jason (Len)and their families. Lionel had a special bond with Annette’s Mom Aline Ratzlaff and her brothers Bobby (Barb), Ray (Lisa) and sister Jeanette (Al). Lionel was predeceased by his father Aime Bouvier. A celebration of Lionel’s life will be held at the Church of Christ in Gravelbourg on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 2 pm. Memorial donations in Lionel’s memory can be made to the Lafleche and District Health Fund Inc. Box 250, Lafleche Saskatchewan.
