Obituary of Eric Simard

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eric Simard announces his death on July 29, 2025 at Ness Creek, Saskatchewan, at the age of 43 years. Eric was born on February 18, 1982, in Montreal, Quebec. He was the third child and only son of Donald Simard and Marie-Flore.
Eric was an adventurous soul, full of curiosity and courage. In his teenage years, he set off hitchhiking across the country to British Columbia and back home to Quebec. He once joked with his father that he wanted to see if the coffee tasted better out west. He formed many lasting friendships with people he met along the way. Upon his return, he furthered his education by studying computer programming and coding.
Eric had a natural connection with animals and was amazing at training dogs. He also had a passion for photography, enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. He was a great cook. It was during his time cooking at Smitty’s in Moose Jaw that he met his future wife,
Eric married Nicole Lalonde of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, and together they were blessed with two sons, Gavin and Xander. He loved being a dad and shared his passions with his boys, creating lasting memories. As a family, they took up skateboarding and many wonderful memories with a few spills and bumps and bruises received along the way.
Though life brought its challenges, including his long and difficult battle with depression, Eric continued to seek meaning and peace. He found solace in the outdoors, working for many years doing maintenance at Shamrock Park. More recently, he worked up north at Ness Creek, where he truly enjoyed spending time in nature.
Eric’s love for Gavin and Xander was unwavering. His memory will live on in their hearts, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Eric is survived by his wife Nicole Lalonde; sons Gavin and Xander; parents Donald Simard, mother Marie-Flore Blais; sisters Marylaine Simard and Karine Simard; and many nieces and nephews.

C'est avec le cœur lourd que la famille d'Éric Simard annonce son décès le 29 juillet 2025, à Ness Creek, Saskatchewan, à l'âge de 43 ans. Eric est né le 18 février 1982 à Montréal, Québec. Il était le troisième enfant et le seul fils de Donald Simard et de MarieFlore. Eric était un aventurier plein de curiosité et de courage. À l'adolescence, il a traversé le pays en auto-stop jusqu'en ColombieBritannique et est revenu au Québec. Il a plaisanté un jour avec son père en disant qu'il voulait voir si le café avait meilleur goût dans l'Ouest! Il a noué de nombreuses amitiés durables avec les personnes qu'il a rencontrées en chemin. À son retour, il a poursuivi sa formation en étudiant la programmation informatique et le codage. Eric avait un lien naturel avec les animaux et était très doué pour dresser les chiens. Il était également passionné de photographie, aimait bricoler et réparer des choses. C'était un excellent cuisinier. C'est en cuisinant chez Smitty's à Moose Jaw qu'il a rencontré sa future femme. Eric a épousé Nicole Lalonde de Gravelbourg, en Saskatchewan, et ensemble ils ont eu la chance d'avoir deux fils, Gavin et Xander. Il adorait être père et partageait ses passions avec ses garçons, créant ainsi des souvenirs inoubliables. En famille, ils se sont mis à faire de la planche à roulettes, ce qui leur a valu de merveilleux souvenirs, avec quelques débordements, bosses et bleus en cours de route! Bien que la vie lui ait apporté son lot de défis, notamment sa longue et difficile lutte contre la dépression, Eric a continué à chercher un sens à sa vie et à trouver la paix. Il a trouvé du réconfort dans les activités de plein air, travaillant pendant de nombreuses années à l'entretien du parc Shamrock. Plus récemment, il a travaillé dans le nord, à Ness Creek, où il aimait vraiment passer du temps dans la nature. L'amour d'Eric pour Gavin et Xander était inébranlable. Son souvenir restera gravé dans leur cœur et dans celui de tous ceux qui l'ont connu et aimé. Eric laisse dans le deuil son épouse Nicole Lalonde, ses fils Gavin et Xander, ses parents Donald Simard et Marie-Flore Blais, ses sœurs Marylaine Simard et Karine Simard, ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Une célébration de la vie d'Eric aura lieu le samedi 6 septembre 2025, à 14 h, au Centre culturel Maillard, 133 5th Ave E, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0.
