Obituary of Janet Loiselle

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Janet’s passing on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was lovingly surrounded by her family as she was called home.

Janet Loiselle (Maroniuk) was born on June 20, 1949, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt, SK, the eldest of five children born to Michael and Pauline Maroniuk. Raised on the family farm a few miles away from their hometown of Peterson, SK. Janet attended schools at Peterson and Dana.  She then took her high school education at St. Ursuline’s Academy in Bruno, SK.

She met Roger Loiselle in 1968, and they were married October 10, 1970, in Peterson, SK. They were blessed with four children: Nicole, Carlotta, Shauna and Marc. They started their family in Shellbrook, SK and in 1982 moved to Gravelbourg, SK.

Janet worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital/Foyer d’Youville from February 1987 to November 2017 beginning as a Care Aide and then later moving into Palliative Spiritual Care where she discovered her true calling. Sadly, retirement came too soon due to her cancer diagnosis.

Cooking and baking were Janet’s love languages and those that knew her will fondly remember the smell of fresh buns and the comfort of her care packages. In retirement, she reconnected with her creative side: she painted, attended art classes, explored drawing, scrapbooked, made cards and knitted.  When travel allowed, she was ready to hop on a plane to see new sights.

Janet was an active member of her faith and community. She participated in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, knitting a record 76 prayer shawls; she was involved with the Cansurmount Support Group and the Artisan Co-op. Her kindness and generous spirit touched countless lives.

Janet is survived by her husband Roger Loiselle; children Nicole Burge (Kim), Carlotta Loiselle (Michael Thorimbert), Shauna Loiselle (James Watson), Marc Loiselle (Melissa); grandchildren Payton and Josh Burge, Julianna Anshelm and Lila Lobb, Sydney and Ashton Loiselle, William and Benjamin Loiselle; brothers David Maroniuk (Mona Dovell), Darren Maroniuk (Charlene); sister-in-law Dolores Nicholson (Richard Sanregret); brother-in-law Ron Loiselle as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet is predeceased by her parents Michael and Pauline Maroniuk; brothers Brian and Wesley Maroniuk; father-in-law and mother-in-law Adrien and Evelyn Loiselle.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the of St. Joseph’s Hospital/Foyer d’Youville - Spiritual Care Department are appreciated.

Prayers will be held August 14, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on August 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Both will take place at Our Lady of Assumption Co-Cathedral. All who know Janet are welcome to join the family in celebrating her life.
