Obituary of Laverne Greffard

 

Laverne Irenee Greffard was born on January 3, 1982 in Gravelbourg, SK, the New Year’s baby. He was the second child and only son of Bill and Lynette (née McCrea), and younger brother to Bernadette. He grew up on the family farm just east of Fir Mountain, SK.

Laverne attended school in Glentworth and graduated in the spring of 2000. During his school years, he enjoyed playing hockey, ball, and badminton, and spending time riding motorbikes.

Over the years, Laverne worked in a variety of trades, including with Leblanc Industries building communication towers, C & E Mechanical, Doepker Industries, and most recently, Palmier Seeds.

On April 29, 2007, he proudly welcomed his son, Jaxson, into the world.

Laverne had a deep love for music, with tastes ranging from Hank Williams and Ray Charles to Slipknot and The Rolling Stones. He enjoyed building and tinkering, and often, when the project was completed, there were always extra pieces. He also especially loved working on his beloved Mercury truck.

 Laverne passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Gravelbourg, SK, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 43 years. He faced his battle with cancer with courage and determination and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his son Jaxson Greffard (Kaylee); parents Bill and Lynette Greffard; sister Bernie (Wes) Awesome and fur niece Reese Peanut Butter Cup; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Emile and Jean Greffard, and Allen and Audrey McCrea.

A Celebration of Laverne’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fir Mountain Hall. Memorial donations in Laverne’s memory may be given “In trust for his son Jaxson, c/o Bill Greffard, Box 192, Glentworth, SK S0H 1V0.
