Obituary of Brent Ross
Ronald Brent Ross of Kincaid, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Brent was 74 years old.
Born on January 21, 1951, at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan, he was the first child of Ronald and June (née Gillstrom) Ross. His sister, Beverly, arrived three years later.
On July 10, 1971, Brent married the love of his life, Ruby Hardement, in the Aneroid United Church. Together, they began their married life in Saskatoon and Delisle before returning to Kincaid in the spring of 1973 to farm with Brent’s parents. Brent also worked for a number of years in the construction industry for Laurie Turgeon.
Brent and Ruby were blessed with four children: Ronald James (1973), Bryan Wade (1975), Sheri June (1977), and Richard Mark (1980). In 1976, they purchased and moved the historic Jack Hendershot Eaton’s catalogue home, renovating it into their forever home on the outskirts of Kincaid.
Deeply rooted in agriculture, Brent was immensely proud of the Ross family farm. In 2009, the family was honoured with a plaque recognizing 100 years of farming the homestead quarter, a milestone that meant a great deal to him. At the age of 70, he officially retired from farming; however, he quickly became the most active retiree imaginable, always ready to help his boys, as they carried on the family tradition and worked the land he loved.
Brent was devoted to his community. He played hockey with the Maroons, baseball with the Southwest Drifters, and was an enthusiastic curler. He coached many of the teams his children played on and later followed his grandchildren’s sports, music, and activities with pride and joy. He contributed countless volunteer hours to community projects, especially the rink, and served as a trustee on the Wood River School Board for many years. He was also active with the Royal Canadian Legion (Pinto Creek) Branch #224 and Club 50. Known for his dedication, his willingness to pitch in, and his natural ability to lead and organize, Brent’s presence enriched the lives of many. We will all dearly miss “Our Go To Guy.”
Brent is survived by his wife, Ruby Ross; his children Jay (Melanie) Ross, grandchildren Brendan and Gillian (Jeremiah) Winslow and great-granddaughter Violet; Bryan (Holly) Ross, grandchildren Owen, Aurora, and William; Sheri (Jason) Luciak, with grandchildren Brianna and Taylor; Mark (Krista) Ross, grandchildren Calli, Jake, Grace, and Abbi; as well as his sister Beverly (Vern) Seibel; brothers-in-law Subhas Koneru and Ted (Louise) Hardement; and sister-in-law Betty (Frank) Thomas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and June Ross; his sister, Jhansi Koneru; and his parents-in-law, Jim and Hilda Hardement.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Glencaid United Church in Kincaid, Saskatchewan with Reverend Janelle Shaw officiating.
