Obituary of Barry Hoffos
Barry Philip Hoffos of Assiniboia, SK passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 79 years.
Barry was born in Swift Current, SK, on July 16, 1946, the first child of Tip and Sylvia Hoffos, who were in the process of moving to Dinsmore, SK. In 1958, when Barry was 12 years old, the family—now including Brian, Donna, and Bobby—moved to Assiniboia. Barry attended all the schools built during that time, completing his education at the “new” Assiniboia Composite High School in 1965.
Following graduation, Barry attended STI in Moose Jaw, studying finance, and began his career with TD Bank. Over the next 25 years, his work took him to several locations in Manitoba and Northern Ontario, including Swan River, Geraldton, and Kenora. During these years, Barry was actively involved with the Kinsmen and kept busy playing senior hockey.
Barry eventually retired from banking and moved back home, but not for long. He later worked in finance with Case IH, which took him to Swift Current and then Lethbridge, before retiring again in 1997. He returned to Assiniboia, this time to stay. Barry was a proud member of the K-40 and enjoyed participating in their bonspiels and helping with all their projects. He transitioned to “watching” hockey and became a regular at the golf course.
Barry greatly enjoyed travelling with his mom and Aunty Vi, whether driving throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, or joining them on cruises and bus trips. He later took on a part-time job at the Assiniboia liquor store—just because—and enjoyed working there until the age of 65, when he retired once more. He then became a “full-time” golfer!!
Barry leaves to cherish his memory his brother Brian (Jenny) Hoffos; nephew Clinton Hoffos; niece Courtney Hoffos (Brodie Seger); sister Donna Hoffos (Ritchie Hordenchuk); niece Angela (Chad) Short; great-nephews Trey and Kaden; nephew Travis Watamanuk; great-nephews Hunter and Grayson; niece Candace Watamanuk (Dustin Francis); great-nephews Jace and Luca; brother Bob Hoffos; nephew Shane (Josie) Hoffos; great-nephews Luis, Emiliano, and Pablo; along with many dear cousins and friends.
He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Tip and Sylvia (née Thierman) Hoffos, and his Aunty Vi Bell.
A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia, SK, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Wendy Gibson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery.
