Obituary of Walter Barber
Walter Marjerrison Barber was born May 29, 1929, to Lilla Violet Marjerrison and Albert Edward Barber. He was the youngest of six children, three girls and three boys. As if life in the Dirty Thirties wasn’t hard enough, Walter lost his mother in June of 1940, when he had just turned 11 years old. As the older children left home, Walter remained to help his father farm. Walter married Lenora Wood on November 11, 1953. Together they raised seven children. Although times were tough in the early years, his strong work ethic and savvy business dealings led him to become a successful farmer, and the Barber farm continues on in the family name to this day. Even after retirement and moving to Biggar, Walter remained active, helping his sons on the farm. He harvested his last crop at the remarkable age of 91—a feat few could accomplish. He truly loved to farm. Walter leaves to cherish his memory his children: daughter Lavina Barber; son Allen (Val) Barber; daughter Cathy Allen; son Weldon (Denise) Barber; daughter Anita (Trent) Silvernagle; and daughter Shannon (Vince) Morgan, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Lenora (née Wood) Barber; his son Lyle Barber; his parents Albert and Lilla Violet (née Marjerrison) Barber; his sisters Murial Barber, Georgia Larter, and Olga McTavish; and his brothers Richard Barber and Albert Barber.
