Obituary of Alice Lohmeyer
Alice Lohmeyer (née Stianson)
It is with sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother Alice Louise Lohmeyer of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, who passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the age of 101.
Alice was born to Elling and Hazel Stianson on July 22, 1924. She grew up on the family farm in the Wenaus district and attended the Middle Valley School. On April 22, 1943, she married Bill Lohmeyer and lived on the farm until moving to Viceroy in 1949. They raised a family of six children.
Alice had many talents. She always had a large and plentiful garden and enjoyed sharing what she grew with family and friends. She always had beautiful flower beds that she tended to meticulously. She was a skilled baker. Her family always looked forward to eating her buns, cinnamon buns, pies, and fried chicken. She loved playing cards. Games would often become competitive and loud, but were always filled with laughter and fun. Alice loved music. She played guitar, piano, and accordion, and was a good singer. She was part of many impromptu jam sessions with friends and family. Alice loved to dance. From her youth all the way into her early 90s, whether at a wedding, town hall, polka-fest, or even in a garage, she wouldn't miss a chance to be on the dance floor. She enjoyed long walks every day, not just for exercise, but as a time to think, reflect, and pray. Alice lived a long and meaningful life marked with kindness, resilience, hard work, and devotion to her family. Her family was always the most important part of her life. She cherished her children, grandchildren, extended family, and her lifelong friends.
After Bill passed away, Alice lived on her own in Viceroy until she was 86 years old. In October 2010, she moved to Assiniboia to the Comfort Jubilee cottages. She settled in easily and enjoyed visits with her family and many friends. She continued with her long walks, large garden, and beautiful flowers there for nearly another decade. In 2019, at age 95, health problems and increasing frailty brought her to Ross Payant Nursing Home. There, she received exceptional loving care until her passing.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Elling and Hazel Stianson; husband, Bill Lohmeyer; siblings Pearl, Gerty, Blanche, and Elridge; son Clifford Lohmeyer; son-in-law Keith Kornum; and grandson Jason Lohmeyer.
She is survived by her children Carol Kornum, Colleen Daviduk, Shirley (Duwane) Oppeboen, Darlene Oppeboen, and Keith Lohmeyer; grandchildren Dan (Dana), Lisa (Chris), Shelley (Graham), Caroline (Mark), Jeff, Tanya, Tracy (Alex), Corey, Wade, Trent (Rebecca), Coralee (Jeff), Juanita (Juan), Joel (Mishonna), and Jamin (Jennifer); great-grandchildren Spencer, Madeline, Avery, Chloe, Samantha, Presley, Caleb, Matthew, Hannah, Sean, Shawleena, Kayten, Olivia, Carter, Santiago, Heidi, Koen, and Nayla; great-great-grandchildren Jaxon and Sophia; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In keeping with Alice's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Ross Payant Nursing Home for their excellent care, compassion, and support during the years she lived there.
