Obituary of Martha Hicks
MARTHA PAULINE HICKS (nee Larson}
Martha passed away peacefully in the Foyer d’Youville in Gravelbourg, on April 15, 2026, after spending several years in the Furrows and Faith Retirement Villa in Mossbank, SK. Martha was born to Kristian and Mary Larson on July 15, 1939. She had one sister, Dorothy (George Fortin) and two brothers, Lawrence (Lorraine) Larson and Chris (Leslie) Larson. All are deceased.
Martha is also predeceased by her husband Albert “Ab” Hicks; her in-laws, George “Bert” and Adele Hicks; brothers-in-law Brian Cuthbert, Don Duncan, and George “Geordie” Hicks; sister-in-law Delores Hicks; nephews Jeffrey Cuthbert and Wesley Hicks.
Martha leaves to mourn her son Barry (Pat) and their sons Daniel and Mark, and Mark's sons Treyten and Ryden; her son Dale (Leslie) and their daughters Katelyn and Sarah; sisters-in-law Donna Hurlburt and Doreen Duncan; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, their families and friends.
Martha married Albert “Ab” Hicks on Oct 10, 1958. They shared 51 years of marriage until Ab's passing in June 2010. Martha worked as hard as any man at her husband's side. She could throw a cooking pot into a dirt pile and produce a thriving garden.
Cooking was her forte. With her mom getting cancer when Martha was 14 years old, she did all the cooking. The skill served her well with all the banquets which she and the Royal Purple put on, and later, feeding all the visitors at their bed and breakfast, which she and Ab ran for years. She loved playing crib and rummy at the 50+ Club and with friends. Martha was also an excellent seamstress and quilter. When her boys were small, she taught Sunday School and served as Secretary for the Royal Purple for many years.
She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
