Obituary of Harold Strauch

Harold Philip Strauch     December 30, 1937 – April 26, 2026

Harold was born in the same home he lived the majority of his life, on the family farm near Shamrock, SK. The oldest child of Gustav and Gertrude Strauch. Harold attended school at Bolingbroke country school to Grade 6. He then spent some time working for the Knudsen family at their lumber camp up north and moving buildings for Ray Butts.

He always had an interest in horses and cattle. He met his wife while competing in a cutting horse show. He married Margaret Fisher of Pangman, SK, on June 30, 1973. Together they raised registered polled Hereford cattle and Appaloosa horses before making the change to Registered Quarter Horses and Paint horses, earning their AQHA 50 year legacy breeder award in 2018 and being a member of the Canadian Hereford Association for close to 60 years.

Harold was actively involved on the board of the SW Cattle Feeders Association for a number of years and was a member of the Shamrock Quarter Horse Breeders Production Sale, which ran for 35 years. He made a point of attending any horse event he could, and horse sales were considered a priority and not to be missed.

Harold spent the last 5 years in the care of the Herbert Integrated Health Care Facility. We thank the staff for all their hard work and dedicated care.

Harold was predeceased by both of his parents, all of his younger siblings and their spouses, Lorenz (Audrey) Strauch, Ken Strauch, Eileen (Terry) Cashin, as well as two older brothers lost in infancy, and his brother-in-law, Fred Fisher.

He leaves to mourn his wife Marg, their children: Tim Strauch, Amber Strauch (Martin Fjaagesund) and grandson Ezra Fjaagesund, his sister-in-law, June Fisher, as well as numerous nieces and nephews,  great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place at Elim Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, May 1, 2026, at 1 p.m. Celebration of Life will follow at the Kelstern Community Church, May 1, 2026, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shamrock Hall, Box 8, Shamrock, SK, S0H 3W0 or the Shamrock Rink, Box 11, Shamrock, SK, S0H 3W0.
