Obituary of Phyllis Prevost

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Phyllis Evelyn Prevost (née Hicke), who passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg, surrounded by the love of her family.

Phyllis was born on June 22, 1940, in Lafleche, Saskatchewan, to Frank and Josephine (née Hartman) Hicke. She attended school in Watrous and Hawarden, and after graduation moved to Saskatoon, where she continued her studies at Robertson Secretarial School.

After completing her schooling, Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper for Miner’s Construction in Saskatoon. It was there that she met a young farmer from down south who was doing winter work away from the farm. Their paths crossed, and they soon discovered in one another something very special, a love and companionship that would last a lifetime. On April 11, 1969, Phyllis married her soulmate, Clifford Prevost, in Saskatoon.

Together, they established their forever home on the “home place” at Wood Mountain, where they raised their three children, Brad, Melissa, and Maureen. The farm was a special place for their family, and many wonderful memories were made there. Family camping trips and travelling to countless sporting events became highlights of their years together.

Phyllis and Clifford loved to travel, exploring different destinations together, with Las Vegas holding a special place among their favourites. Phyllis enjoyed curling, playing bingo, and the occasional poker machine.

She was also a wonderful cook. Her macaroni salad was legendary, and her turkey dressing was always a family favourite. Phyllis took great pride in her garden and always grew a large one. Her homemade pickles were second to none and were eagerly enjoyed by family and friends.

Family was at the centre of Phyllis’s world. She took tremendous pride in her grandchildren and was truly their number-one fan. She travelled countless miles to watch them play sports, often wearing one of her many different hats and cheering them on with her horn, loud and proud. She never missed an opportunity to support them, and they always knew Grandma was in their corner.

Some of the fondest memories were made close to home, gathered around a table playing smear with neighbours and friends, rotating from one house to another. Phyllis was always happy to provide directions to her family so they could find their way to wherever she happened to be. Giving directions, however, was not necessarily her strongest suit! Somehow, those adventures usually ended in laughter and became stories the family would tell for years to come.

Phyllis’s faithful dog, Shep, was her treasured four-legged companion and brought her comfort and companionship, especially in her later years.

Clifford passed away in January 2024, leaving Phyllis to carry on without her beloved soulmate. His absence was deeply felt, but the love they shared remained a lasting part of her life. Together, they had created a family, a home, and a lifetime of memories that will continue to live on.

Phyllis was a beautiful soul with a warm and gracious heart. She loved her family deeply and found happiness in the simple things, a glass of wine, her garden, a good game of cards, a family gathering, a trip with Clifford, cheering from the hockey stands, and having the people she loved close by.

Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her son Brad (Gwen) Prevost; grandson Tyler (Whitney) McKee, great-grandchildren Sawyer and Aria; granddaughter Stephanie McKee; grandson Cory (Shelby) McKee and great-grandson Luka; daughter Melissa Dawson; grandson Kelly Prevost; daughter Maureen (Lyle) Helland; grandson Shawn (Jamie) Helland, great-grandchildren Eric and Emma; granddaughter Nicole (Devin) Milligan, great-grandchildren Letty and Capri; grandson Dakota Helland and great-grandson Holstyn; grandson Taylor Helland (Jeneva). She is also survived by her brother-in-law Lorne (Bernie) Prevost; sisters-in-law Carolyn Hicke, Gladys Nespliak, Bernice Mitchell, and Diann Tonita; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Phyllis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clifford Prevost; her parents, Frank and Josephine Hicke; brothers Phillip (Rosina) Hicke and Ron Hicke; parents-in-law Harvey and Mary Ann Prevost; and brothers-in-law Ken (Grace) Prevost, Vic Nespliak, Art Mitchell, and George Tonita.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 1:30 pm at Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapel 601 Highway 2 North, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
