Obituary of Larry Thompson

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Grant Thompson, who passed away at Regina General Hospital on September 16, 2026, at the age of 81.

Larry was born on March 26, 1945, in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, to Doug and Patricia Thompson. He grew up on the family farm in the Vantage area and graduated from Assiniboia Composite High School in 1962. He went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in 1966 with a Diploma in Vocational Agriculture.

On July 29, 1967, Larry married the love of his life, Beverly Kozmeniuk. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage—a wonderful milestone in a life filled with family, hard work, laughter, and countless memories.

Larry and Bev raised their family with love and devotion. He will be deeply missed by Bev and children: Doug and Katherine Thompson of Medicine Hat, Alberta; Pam and John Connolly of Marysville, Ohio; and Trevor and Kimberly Thompson of Assiniboia. He was a proud grandfather to Daphne and Charles Thompson; Ann and Benjamin Connolly; and Ramsey and Zachariah Thompson. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he was always proud to watch them grow, cheer them on, and be part of their lives.

He is also survived by his sister Shelley Thompson and her spouse, Fred Gale, in-laws, Wayne and Karol Kozmeniuk, Bernie Kozmeniuk, Donna and Larry Mazur, Sally Thomas, and many neices, nephews and friends.

A farmer at heart, he took great pride in farming and especially enjoyed farming alongside Trevor. Even into his 80s, he could still be found driving the sprayer and keeping an eye on things around the farm.

Larry loved his family, and one of his greatest pleasures in his final years was watching his grandsons play sports. He appreciated the simple joys of life—time with family, playing cards with friends and family, a good curling game, washing his truck, and, perhaps most importantly, a piece of chocolate cake.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Doug and Patricia Thompson; his sisters, Patricia Paulson and Gertrude Patterson; his brother, Terry Thompson; and his in-laws, Dmytro and Lena Kozmeniuk.

Larry leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and a lifetime of memories that will be cherished. His steady presence, a life of faith in the Lord, his love of family and farming, and his enjoyment of the everyday things that made life good will be remembered by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service will be at the Assiniboia Alliance Church (305 4th Avenue SE) officiated by Rev. Chris Ulriksen, on Sunday, September 20th at 3:00pm with a chocolate cake and ice cream reception to follow.
