Patrick and Elan Grondin and family purchased Piché-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Assiniboia and Gravelbourg  on September 1, 2007. Patrick was born (February 2, 1966) and raised in Biggar. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an Economics Degree in 1988 and received his Embalmer and Funeral Director’s Certification of Qualification in 1992.  He worked at his father’s funeral home for  25 years, including being General Manager from 1990-2006.  Patrick and Elan were married July 18, 1992 and have four children. Alyssa was born July 19, 1995; Patrick Jr. was born January 8, 1998; Victoria was born September 24, 2002; and William was born June 22, 2004.  Patrick is actively involved in the community, being on many local boards and clubs and coaching sports.

Patrick and Elan Grondin  purchased Piché-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Assiniboia and Gravelbourg  on September 1, 2007. Elan was born (April 15, 1966) and raised on the family farm near Landis. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an Education Degree in 1990. She received her Funeral Director’s Certification of Qualification in 2001. Elan had been a full time schoolteacher until their move to Assiniboia. She is now working full time at the funeral home, substituting in the local schools and very active in the community.  Patrick and Elan were married July 18, 1992 and have four children. Alyssa was born July 19, 1995; Patrick Jr. was born January 8, 1998; Victoria was born September 24, 2002; and William was born June 22, 2004.

Patrick Jr. was born on January 8, 1998, to Patrick and Elan Grondin. He attended school in Biggar until grade 4, when his family moved to Assiniboia. Patrick graduated from Assiniboia Composite High School in 2016. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and earned his Bachelor Commerce degree in 2020. Patrick took the Funeral Service program through  Saskatchewan Polytechnique and graduated in March, 2022 with great  distinction. Patrick received his Funeral Director License in August, 2022 and received his Embalming License in February, 2023.

Sam Hawkins, Funeral Director

Sam was born in Gravelbourg, SK and attended school at Standon, Bateman, Gravelbourg and Western Christian College in Weyburn. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian College with a degree in teaching (B.S.E) in 1973. He spent two years teaching at Western Christian College and a year in Victoria, BC. Sam married Paulette (nee Fournier) Pinsonneault in 1998.Sam purchased the funeral home in Gravelbourg from Claude Piche in 1982. He obtained his funeral director and embalming license in 1984. In 1992, Sam and Claude became partners and built the Assiniboia Chapel.

Claude Piche, Funeral Service Professional 

Claude was born and grew up in Gravelbroug, SK. In 1968 he received his Embalmer and Funeral Directors license and purchased the funeral home in Gravelbourg in 1969. Claude married Marion, and together they have two children, Desiree and Stephan. In 1982 Claude sold the funeral home to Sam Hawkins  and in 1992 Claude became partners with Sam and they built the funeral home in Assiniboia.

Cheri Rotheisler, Funeral Service Professional 

Cheri was born on September 8, 1977 in Lafleche, SK and is the daughter of Rus and Linda (nee Moen) Lovo. She grew up in the towns of Mankota and Lafleche, graduating in 1995. She completed her Funeral Service Worker certificate through SIAST in 2011 and has been a casual employee since that time. Working in and out of many other industries in the Gravelbourg area, her desire remains to serve the community in times of need. Currently, she resides in Gravelbourg where she raises her 3 daughters, Morgan, Hunter, and Layla.

Ken Berner, Funeral Service Professional

Ken ws born on the family farm in the Verwood district. He is the son of George and Pauline Berner. He attended school in Verwood. Ken started out his career working for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool before becoming a full-time farmer. He married Sharon Walter and together they farmed and raised three sons, Jason, Kelly, and Glenn. Ken began working at the funeral home in 2015.

JoAnn Girardin , Funeral Service Professional

Jo-Ann, daughter of Gerry and Hellen (nee Beliveau) Vallee, was born in Regina, SK. She was raised in Ponteix and after graduation worked at the Royal Bank in Calgary, Fort McMurray, and Prince George. She completed an interior design course in Calgary before returning to Ponteix. In June of 1980, Jo-Ann married Michel Girardin. They were blessed with two daughters, Amanda and Rachelle. Jo-Ann owned and operated Mom’s Florist in Ponteix, Gravelbourg, and Assiniboia. She began working at the funeral home in 2016.

Michael was raised around the Moose Jaw area and currently resides outside of Moose Jaw. He is married with two children. Michael's background is in the financial and insurance professions. He became a licensed funeral pre-need salesperson with the Funeral and Cremation Services Council of Saskatchewan and works with Canada Purple Shield. He is excited to bring his wealth of knowledge to assist and support those wishing to pre-plan their end of life wishes. Michael can be reached directly at 306-631-4667 or through contacting the funeral home to set up an appointment.
