Our cherished Mom, Marcelle Verville, passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’Youville in Gravelbourg on January 4, 2023, at the age of 98 years and 6 months. Marcelle, née Beauregard, was born in a sod house in the Scout Lake region on July 4, 1924. She was a baby when the family moved to Gravelbourg. She was one of ten children born to Arthur Beauregard and Bertha Beaubien. She was predeceased by all except her youngest brother, Georges Beauregard (André, Albert, Jeanne, Raymond, Henri, Denise Verville, Germaine Whyte, and Roger). She is survived by Oxana and Stella, wives to Roger and Georges, as well as Germaine’s husband, Russell.  Marcelle had the great fortune of being raised in two homes; due to sickness, she spent many years with her godparents, Béatrice (née Beaubien) and Charlie Coots. After completing her Grade 12 at the Collège Thévenet in Gravelbourg, she attended Normal school in Moose Jaw and then began her teaching career in local one-room schoolhouses. While teaching at Piché school, she met the man of her life, Louis Verville whom she married in November 1946. Marcelle and Louis had twelve children: Liliane Verville Roux, Janine (Jean-Marie) Bouvier, Diane (the late Cléophas) Bouvier, Paul (Denise Rodgers), the late Jean, Renée (Félix) Bouvier, Nicole (Dale) Knaus, Robert, Marie, Simone (Laurier Gareau), Françoise (Richard Schlageter) and Charles (Irene). Marcelle was blessed with thirty grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren that she loved enormously. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins completed her family circle.

Marcelle was a lifelong teacher, whether formally in classrooms, or informally alongside anyone who had the honour to know her. Moreover, she was a dedicated farmer with Louis and after his death.

When sorting through Mom’s documents, we found a scrap of paper on which she had handwritten: “When you are old, all you have are two important things in life; one is love and the other is family.” Marcelle, a woman of great faith, bequeathed the importance of love and family and she taught us that sadness and grief are shared with joy and happiness as part of a rich human experience.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 14th at 11am in Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg. The mass will be livestreamed.
