Elmer was born April 4, 1941 on the family farm SE 14-14-06 W3rd in the Shamrock district, and passed away peacefully with family at his side on January 17, 2023 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK after a brief illness. He took all his schooling at Bolingbroke, travelling by horse and buggy or sled. He was actively involved in baseball and hockey. Having finished school he helped on the family farm, had various jobs in the area and worked in the oil patch until he was able to farm on his own. Elmer’s lifelong passion was farming, and he took great pride in the farm he had built. He was well known for his many hours spent driving through the countryside checking crops, where it had rained and looking for gopher hot spots. He was an avid sports fan spending many hours watching NFL, NHL and MLB and also keeping up to date on current events. Elmer would be best described as a diamond with many jagged edges.

Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Melita Arnold; siblings Leonard, Arthur, Edna Heinrichs, Gordon, Harvey, Lois Toews, Ken and Millie; brothers-in-law Jim Duvall and Wayne Watson: sisters-in-law Marlene and Shirley Arnold. He is survived by his siblings Alvin, Ralph (Alice), Marion Duvall, Marj Siever, Alfred (Wendy) and Dianne Watson; brothers-in-law Elvin Toews and Levi Heinrichs: sisters-in-law Beryl, Darlene and Donna Arnold; 32 nieces and nephews and a large extended family. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Dr. De Klerk, the Nurses from Units 3 & 4 and to all those involved for the exceptional care given to Elmer.  Elmer will be laid to rest at the Shamrock Cemetery on Monday, January 23 at 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 23, 2023, 2:00 pm, at the Kelstern Community Church, Kelstern, SK. Memorial donations in Elmer’s memory may be given to STARS Air Ambulance, 2640 Airport Road Regina, SK S4W 1A3.
