Obituary of Aline Sproule

Aline Sproule (Belcourt) passed away in Lafleche at the age of 93 on January 31, 2023. She was born in Lafleche on December 11, 1929. She married Merle Sproule on November 28th, 1953, and raised a family of 6 children on the farm south of town. She is predeceased by her parents Adrien and Jeanne Belcourt, her siblings Raymond, Robert, Emile, Adrienne and Edmond, her husband Merle and her son Patrick. She is survived by her brother Pierre (Val), her children, Kevin, Garth (Cindy), Maureen (Gord Froehlich), David (Sherry) and Cathy, grandchildren Jessica, Mackenzie, Kara, Laura, Jill, Emily, Audrey, Duncan, Zachary and Samuel as well as 14 great-grandchildren. Mom was the backbone of our family and a great role model for her children and grandchildren.

Mom grew up in Lafleche and lived there her whole life. The Roman Catholic Church was the bedrock of her faith and community life. She was a Girl Guide Leader, a CWL member, a school teacher and contributed in many ways to life in Lafleche. She was very proud of her French-Canadian heritage and was interested in genealogy. She loved to play bridge, knit and read. She shared a passion for music with dad and us kids. Classically trained, she also loved the kitchen party music sessions with the neighbours. She led many choirs, and grace on special occasions at home was always sung in harmony. She found kindred musical spirits at their winter home in Mesa. In her later years, she took up the fiddle along with her grandkids Jill and Audrey. Fiddle jams often broke out at family gatherings, with Dad on the piano. Mom just loved babies! Even in her final years at the Lafleche Health Centre, she would come alive when a baby entered the room! She will be missed for her kindness and quiet gentle strength.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Lafleche Health Centre for the loving care Mom received over the last 5 years.
