Obituary of Olga Anne Borowetz

Olga Anne Borowetz (nee Okraincee) of Weekes, SK passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the age of 93 years. Olga Anne was born on January 12, 1930, on the family farm Sec 23-Twp 5-Rge 4 W3rd near Wood Mountain, SK. She was the eldest child born to William and Nellie Okraincee. A big sister to Peter, Steve, Mary, Bill, Roman and Lily. In 1935, the family moved 5 miles north of Fir Mountain. Olga Anne attended school at Fir Mountain and Mount Zion and completed her grade 9 by correspondence.  As a young teenager, she was in charge of taking care of her siblings. She was kind-hearted and always had a positive outlook on life. In 1956, Olga Anne married Dmytro Holowchuk and they resided at Weekes. Dmytro passed away in October of 1968. In 1970, Olga Anne married Metro Borowetz and they farmed together side by side until retiring in 1990 after which the land was rented out. Sadly, Metro passed away on March 29, 2021. Olga Anne needing a little extra care and wanting to be closer to her family moved to the Lafleche and District Health Centre in Lafleche, SK where she resided for the last 13 months. She was most grateful for the wonderful care and always talked about how great the staff was.   Olga Anne was an incredible seamstress, sewing all her own clothes, as well as sewing for others.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and gardening. However, her love for canning was incredible and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t tackle in that regard. She was often involved with catering for weddings and funerals, making cabbage rolls and perogies was her specialty.  Once asked if she could guess how big the pile of perogies would be of her lifetime of making, her reply was just a sparkle in her eye. Olga Anne always had a positive outlook on life, even in the toughest time, her positive attitude always shone through. Her motto was don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today. If there was something to do - just get it done. Olga Anne was truly loved by all her precious family, a beacon of light and a wealth of knowledge. She will be so dearly missed by her family, friends and neighbours.  Olga Anne leaves to mourn her loving family:  brother Roman (Katie) Okraincee; sister Lily Lethbridge; sister-in-law Diane Okraincee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is reunited in heaven with her husband of 50 years Metro Borowetz and her first husband Dmytro Holowchuk; parents Nellie (nee Kohut) )and William Okraincee; siblings Bill Okraincee, Peter (Olga) Okraincee, Mary (George) Tanghe, Steve Okraincee; brother-in-law Lawrence Lethbridge; nephews Terry Okraincee, Armand Tanghe and  Stanley Lethbridge; niece Marcella Peutert; great nieces Tabitha Reinch and Pyper Okraincee. Prayer Service will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 7:30 p.m., and Funeral Mass on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., both at Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels, 601 Highway 2 North Assiniboia, SK, with Father Vasyl Tymishak celebrant. Interment will take place at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Olga Anne can be given to STARS Air Ambulance, 2640 Airport Road, Regina, SK S4W 1A3.
