Obituary of Ed Cummer

Ed passed away at his farm home south of Palmer the morning of April 10th, 2023, after a heart attack. He was the second son of Russell and Gladys Mae Cummer (née McCammack) born in Hospital St Joseph July 25th 1949. He is survived by his older brother Charles Howard (based in Victoria, BC) his sister Alena Haines (née Sylvia Cummer) (based in Monte Carlo) and his younger brother Sidney Oscar (based on the farm Palmer, SK).

Ed schooled at Marquette School 2747 in Palmer and afterwards trained in Moose Jaw to be a bricklayer. After working as a bricklayer Ed returned to the farm, joining Sid, to help his father and Uncle Oscar with the farming as they grew older.

Ed and Sid farmed the original homestead grants of land that were given to their uncles and grandfather in 1910 and were proud to still be farming the same land 100 years later. In these later years, they withdrew from active farming, but very much enjoyed staying on the home quarter.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 17th 2023 at the Piché Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapel in Gravelbourg, SK at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Geneva Cemetery at Palmer, next to his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
