Obituary of Carl Weiss

It is with sad hearts that we say good bye to our father, brother and grandfather, Carl Herman Weiss, who passed away on May 15, 2023 at Ross Payant Centennial Home, Assiniboia, SK., with his granddaughter Kimmy Petersen, at his side.

Dad was born September 18, 1927, to a farming couple, Jake and Tillie Weiss of Mossbank, Saskatchewan. Dad was the 2nd of four boys. He grew up like most farm kids going to school and coming home to complete various chores. He married a local girl Lillian Ruby Singbeil and moved to Calgary, Alberta to attend a Carpentry Apprenticeship, graduating May 3, 1954.  It was there that they had their first two sons. They then moved to Saskatoon, SK. where Dad steered his carpentry career to the drywall business, Gypsum Drywall Ltd. This is where their third son was born.  Dad would continue with that Company and moved to manage a branch in Edmonton, Alberta where he worked and eventually bought the Branch.

Dad had the great fortune to have two families. He married Barbara Ouellette, in July 1984 which allowed them and our families to become one. Dad eventually retired and moved back to his home town, Mossbank, SK  where he lived in his parents’ retirement home. Dad and Barb loved to travel and purchased a Volkswagen camper that they named ‘Herby’ and traveled many miles seeing the sites including trips to the US to visit his brother Ed and wife, Betty plus other friends from Mossbank and Area. They eventually purchased a fifth wheel and continued to travel. They always had great stories about their travels.

To keep himself busy, Dad, being a carpenter by trade, always kept busy building something. Whether it was lawn ornaments or doing renovations to their home. He also helped on the farm, now owned by his brother Ed.  If that wasn’t enough, he threw his hat into the political ring and became the Mayor of Mossbank, which he loved and found the job very satisfying.

Barb was fortunate to have her daughter, Lynn, move to Mossbank which brought Lynn’s two daughters and son, Shawn along with her. Eventually, Lynns’ daughters and son gave them grandchildren, who became the jewel of Dad and Barb's eyes.  A lot of time was spent with Grandpa and Grandma.

Dad was predeceased by his first wife Lillian, parents Jake and Tillie Weiss, his brother Ron from Calgary, his second wife Barbara, Barbara’s son, Mark Ouellette and granddaughter, kristina McColman and Mother-In-Law Hilda Power.

Dad will be dearly missed by his 3 loving sons Ted, (Darlene), Merv (Darlene) , Les (Bridgette), plus blended family, Lynn McColman,  Ron (Suzie) Ouellette and brothers Ed Weiss and Harvey  (Donna) Weiss, along with 13 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to mention.  Dad will also be missed by many friends and extended family.

Lynn McColman lived with Dad and Barb even after Dad’s wife  Barb had passed, allowing Dad to remain in his home until additional support was needed and was moved to the Nursing Home in Assiniboia, SK. The Weiss Family thank Lynn and her daughters and granddaughter’s commitment and love to our shared Dad.

Carl will be cremated at his request and will be buried next to his loving wife, Barb at the Graveside Service at Mossbank Cemetery on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., with lunch and fellowship to follow at Mossbank Community Hall from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
