Obituary of Maureen KNOX

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen Knox, peacefully, in her sleep, at her home in Assiniboia, January 9, 2014 at the age of 90. Maureen was born April 5, 1923 on a farm NE of Limerick, to Billy and Ida (Barkley) Knox. She took her schooling at Orinoco School and the Limerick School up to Grade 12. She attended Davidson Business College in Moose Jaw, then worked at Swift Canadian Company for 3 years. Maureen went to Ontario for a holiday in 1945 and ended up staying there for 11 years, working at the Waterloo Trust and Savings Company in Kitchener, Ont. She came back to Sask. in 1956, after her dad had a heart attack. She worked at R.L. Bamford Accounting in Assiniboia. In 1958, she went to Fort Qu'Appelle to take the 5 month winter course at the Prairie Christian Training Center and was subsequently offered the secretary's job. She loved the valley - the lakes and the people, so ended up staying for 25 years. Maureen was able to do a fair amount of traveling - from coast to coast in Canada, to England, Denmark and Holland. In 1993, she decided to move back to Assiniboia - closer to her family. Maureen loved being with her friends and family. She spent many months with her dear friend, the late Carol Palenstein, of Edam, SK, who she always considered a second mom. She loved to drive, she loved staying up late reading or watching old movies and she loved chocolate. Maureen is survived by her brother, Jack Knox, sister-in-law Joyce Knox, nephew Graham (Marjorie) Knox, nieces, Lenore (Derek) Palmer and Colleen (Nathan) Epp, 5 great nephews, 6 great nieces, 4 great-great nephews and 1 great-great niece. She was predeceased by her parents, Billy and Ida Knox, sister Madeline Knox, brother Murray Knox, great nephew Andrew Palmer and sister-in-law Marjorie Knox.
