On Monday, September 11, 2023, Chantal Céleste Bissonnette Castonguay earned her angel wings. Chantal was born on July 7th, 1986, in Regina, but it was in Gravelbourg that she spent her formative years, graduating in 2004. After completing high school, she relocated to Regina, following her passion for hairdressing. She pursued a diploma in Cosmetology at Avant-Garde College. Her career began at Chatters salon in Southland Mall. While working as a hairdresser, she furthered her education by commuting to Moose Jaw for a year to attend Sask Polytechnic, where she studied business. She later returned to Gravelbourg to work alongside her mother in her salon.

In 2010, Chantal embarked on a new challenge, returning to Regina to pursue a degree in French Education at the University of Regina. During her second year, this program led her to the university in Quebec City, where she crossed paths with Frédéric, who would later become her husband. They purchased their first home in 2013 and Chantal graduated with her degree in 2014.  Chantal and Frédéric were married on July 4th, 2015 in Gravelbourg, SK.  The following year, their son Benoit was born, and in 2018, Béatrice completed their family.

Chantal was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in August 2018 and fought the disease with all she had. She had many challenges in the five years of diagnoses but when you had seen her out and about, you would have never known. Chantal was part of the InPower committee (for breast cancer survivors and those diagnosed). She was very passionate about being involved and advocating and helping others.

Throughout her life, Chantal radiated positivity and possessed an unwavering passion for people, her work, and the causes dear to her heart. Her soul was as beautiful as her smile was contagious, and her heart was as large as they come. She had a knack for illuminating every room she entered, making everyone feel cherished, heard, and seen as if they were her closest confidant. Chantal excelled in her roles as a daughter, sister, wife, friend, and aunt, but above all, she was an extraordinary mother. In addition to her many hobbies, such as knitting, photography, painting, and reading, she actively engaged in various clubs dedicated to these interests. She treasured time spent with her faithful furry companion and best friend Layla (her dog).  She loved anything beauty related especially her make up and nails and was passionate about her Seint make-up career. However, her most cherished accomplishments were her children.

Chantal passed away at the tender age of 37 surrounded by her family at St. Joseph Hospital in Gravelbourg. Chantal's memory will forever live on through her loving husband, Frédéric Castonguay, and her young children, Benoit and Béatrice. She is also survived by her mother, Marguerite Bissonnette (née Podevin), her father, Renaud Bissonnette (Shelly), her sister, Nicole Bissonnette (Brendan), and their children, Noah and Navee; mémère Julienne Podevin; mother-in-law Lise Côté, father-in-law Jean-Yves Castonguay (Micheline), sister-in-law Melissa Castonguay Cossette (Devon), and their children, Mason and Maude and her sister-in-law Mylène Castonguay (Sébastien) and her son Matthew. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Yvette and Dollard Bissonnette, and her pépère Werner Podevin, as well as her aunt Diane Bissonnette, uncle Guy Bissonnette, cousin Monique Bissonnette, and aunt Lise Costley.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many exceptional nurses, doctors, therapists, staff, and friends who provided unwavering care and support throughout Chantal's journey.

A Celebration of Life in her honour will take place at Our Lady of Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg, SK, on September 22, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

Chantal Bissonnette Castonguay

Le lundi 11 septembre 2023, Chantal Céleste Bissonnette Castonguay  gagna ses ailes angéliques. Chantal est née le 7 juillet 1986 à Regina, mais c’est à Gravelbourg qu’elle passa ses années formatives, obtenant son diplôme du secondaire en 2004. Après ses études secondaires, elle déménagea à Regina afin de poursuivre sa passion pour la coiffure. Elle obtint un diplôme en cosmétologie de l’Avant-Garde College. Sa carrière débuta au salon Chatters du Southland Mall. Tout en travaillant comme coiffeuse, elle poursuivit ses études dans le domaine des affaires à l'École polytechnique de la Saskatchewan à Moose Jaw. Elle retourna ensuite à Gravelbourg pour travailler avec sa mère dans son salon de beauté.

En 2010, Chantal se lança dans un nouveau défi, retournant à Regina pour poursuivre des études en éducation française à l’Université de Regina. Au cours de sa deuxième année, ce programme l’amena à l’Université Laval à Québec, où elle fit la connaissance de Frédéric, qui devint, plus tard, son mari. Ils achetèrent leur première maison en 2013 et Chantal obtint son bac en éducation en 2014. L'union de Chantal et Frédéric fut bénie le 4 juillet 2015 à Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. L'année suivante, leur fils Benoit est né et, en 2018, Béatrice vint compléter la famille.

Chantal fut diagnostiquée du cancer inflammatoire du sein en août 2018 et lutta contre cette maladie avec tout ce qu’elle avait. Elle eut à faire face à de nombreux défis au cours des cinq dernières années, mais à la voir, vous ne l’auriez jamais su. Chantal faisait partie du comité InPower (pour les personnes diagnostiquées du cancer et les survivantes). Elle s'impliqua avec passion dans la défense des intérêts et l’aide aux autres. 

Tout au long de sa vie, Chantal rayonnait de positivité et possédait une passion inébranlable pour les gens, son travail et les causes qui lui tenaient à cœur. Son âme était aussi belle que son sourire était contagieux, et son cœur était aussi grand qu’ils viennent. Elle avait le don d’éclairer chaque pièce dans laquelle elle entrait, faisant en sorte que tout le monde se sente chéri, entendu et vu comme s’il était son confident le plus proche. Chantal excellait dans ses rôles de fille, de sœur, d’épouse, d’amie et de tante, mais par-dessus tout, elle était une mère extraordinaire. En plus de ses nombreux passe-temps, tels que le tricot, la photographie, la peinture et la lecture, elle s’est activement engagée dans divers clubs dédiés à ces intérêts. Elle chérissait le temps passé avec sa fidèle compagne à fourrure et meilleure amie Layla (son chien).  Elle aimait tout ce qui concernait la beauté, en particulier son maquillage et ses ongles, et était passionnée par sa carrière de maquilleuse Seint. Cependant, ses réalisations les plus chères étaient ses enfants.

Chantal est décédée à l’âge tendre de 37 ans entourée de sa famille à l’Hôpital Saint-Joseph de Gravelbourg. La mémoire de Chantal vivra à jamais à travers son époux aimant, Frédéric Castonguay, et ses jeunes enfants, Benoit et Béatrice. Elle laisse également dans le deuil sa mère, Marguerite Bissonnette (née Podevin), son père, Renaud Bissonnette (Shelly), sa sœur, Nicole Bissonnette (Brendan), et leurs enfants, Noah et Navee; sa mémère Julienne Podevin; sa belle-mère Lise Côté, son beau-père Jean-Yves Castonguay (Micheline), sa belle-sœur Mélissa Castonguay Cossette (Devon), et leurs enfants, Mason et Maude, sa belle-sœur Mylène Castonguay (Sébastien) et son fils Matthew. Elle fut précédée au tombeau par ses grands-parents, Yvette et Dollard Bissonnette, son pépère Werner Podevin, ainsi que sa tante Diane Bissonnette, son oncle Guy Bissonnette, sa cousine Monique Bissonnette et sa tante Lise Costley.

La famille tient à exprimer sa sincère gratitude aux nombreuses infirmières, médecins, thérapeutes, membres du personnel et amis exceptionnels qui ont fourni des soins et un soutien indéfectibles tout au long du parcours de Chantal.

Une célébration de la vie en son honneur aura lieu à la Co-Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption de Gravelbourg, en Saskatchewan, le 22 septembre 2023, à 19 h.  Des dons commémoratifs à la mémoire de Chantal peuvent être faits pour la future éducation de Benoit et Béatrice.
