Obituary of Arthur Setrum

Arthur Gerald Setrum

1927 - 2023

Dad passed away peacefully on, Tuesday, November 7th, 2023 at the age of 96.  He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Amanda; brother, Marlo; sisters, Ethel and Iola, and his granddaughter, Chrystal.  He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Verna on the verge of their 72nd wedding anniversary coming up on Dec 3rd; by sons, Garry (Myrna), Lavern (Carol), daughters, Wendy (Sid), Donna (Kevin); daughter-in-law, Lynne; ten grandchildren, Leona, Carmel (Clint), Vanessa (Dan), Britany (Jeff); Jason, Duane (Courtney), Rodney (Amanda); Michelle (Devin); Brandie (Matt); Shawn(Abbey); nineteen great grandchildren, Gavin, Mason; Raven, Alexis, Abby, Nathan; David; Blake, Jake; Jaylyn, Johnathan, Samantha, Kaylee; Doc, Nixon; Gaia, Terra; Adelyn and Brady.

Dad was tasked at a young age to carry on the responsibilities of the family farm upon his fathers early death. One story of when he was picking rock with a team of mules.  He was out picking rock all day and a snake spooked the mules and he fell off the stone boat. When he finally caught up with the team, all his long day of picking rocks had all fallen out of the stone boat. In his lifetime he saw a lot of changes on the farm, from farming with mules to the huge tractors of today. He built many homes and open up the drive-in restaurant in Coronach, which is still in operation today.

He was a strong, humble Christian man and we are so very grateful to him for taking us to church and instilling faith into us kids.

He had a great sense of humour and really enjoyed the company of others, always had a story ready and loved sharing a good laugh.  He cared about people and his family, never hesitating to offer a helping hand at a moments notice. He was very involved in the community, spending 10 years on the RM Council.

Mom and dad loved to travel and spent many years in Arizona. In the early years in AZ they enjoyed hiking, square dancing, golfing and getting together with friends for a good games of cards, always ready with the crib board or challenging many to a game of smear.

We would like to thank all the staff for their loving care at the Coronach Health Centre.  A Celebration of dads life will be held on Monday, November 13th at 1:30 pm at the Coronach Alliance Church 211 1st Ave.  A private family interment will follow at the Berg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coronach Health Centre Box 540 Coronach, SK S0H 0Z0.  Arrangements in care of Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Home Assiniboia.
