Obituary of Wilma Busch

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Wilma Busch announce the passing of our much-loved mom, grandma and great-grandma on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Foyer d’Youville long term care centre in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, in her 96th year.

She was born on April 9, 1927, in the Spring Valley farming area of southern Saskatchewan, the eldest child of Nicholaus and Dorothea Geib.  She had a passion for life-long learning and education. She attended normal school with her sister Elsie for her teaching certificate. She taught at Emery School where she met and married Ervin in 1950. They farmed in the St. Boswells area and had three sons and two daughters. Later, Wilma finished her education degree at age 58.  She was very dedicated to her students and taught many years before retiring to Saskatoon.

Wilma was a person of deep faith, and an active member of her church, first at Trinity Lutheran at St. Boswell’s, and then at Redeemer Lutheran in Saskatoon.  Her caring and compassion was demonstrated in her years as a caregiver in Stephen Ministry at Redeemer.  She loved attending family reunions for both the Busch and Geib clans. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she always looked forward to the get togethers. She loved gardening, was an avid reader, an adventurer, going on several international trips with her sisters, sailing for the first time in her seventies, and enjoying a family trip to Mexico when she was 86 years old.

Wilma is survived by her children: Murray (Leslie), Garnet (Laurie), Arlene, and Maureen (Tom), daughter-in-law Kim; by her grandchildren: Barkley (Crystal), Trevor, Loren (Bernard), Avery (Marie), Abbie, Stefanie (Joe), Nathan (Morgan), Paige (Justin) and Hailey; and great-grandchildren: Natalie, Cashton, Rowan, and Braxton; her sisters: Helen, Norma (Les), Erna, and Lydia; and her brother Alvin.  She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholaus and Dorothea, eldest son Duane, son-in-law Peter Flaman, sister Elsie, brothers-in-law Fred, Ray, Stan, and Dean.

Wilma will be sadly missed. And we are so grateful for the time we had with her.

The family wishes to thank Wilma’s neighbour Rosemarie Knapp and family for helping to keep her in her own home as long as possible; and to thank the staff at both Prairie Wind Estates personal care home and the Foyer d’Youville for the loving care they provided for her in her last months.

It was her wish to be cremated, and the family thanks the Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan for their help and support.  A memorial service will be held at Trinty Lutheran Church, St. Boswell on May 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  Should people wish to remember Wilma through a donation, the family would appreciate those being directed to Trinity Lutheran church in St. Boswells area, Saskatchewan.
