Sincere condolences to family! I first met Don when he was in the region office in Winnipeg, and I was a young pup of a warden. I’ve always appreciated how genuine and willing to share of his time Don was.

I worked with Don, both closely and often far removed, as our lives and careers with Parks Canada criss crossed over the decades. He was a trusted colleague framed with integrity. Our national parks and historic sites and all those associated send best wishes and fond memories. Charlie Zinkan Nelson BC

Uncle Don had the best laugh and the best heart. We loved visiting them in Calgary. On one visit they took us on a road trip to Canmore to go to lunch at their favourite restaurant there. We walked around together and they showed us where they loved to cross country ski along the way. Our kids loved spending time with them and Uncle Don made them feel loved and filled them with laughter. Auntie Jeanne filled us up with the best dinners! Love to Stu, Grant and Don and families. We sure will miss you, Uncle Don. Thanks for being awesome.

I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Don for several years in the Calgary office. I was one of the biologists that you describe in your tribute to your Dad. He had the important traits - integrity and humor. I am a stranger to you, but hopefully when I speak highly of the man I knew, you will feel warmth, care, and hope. My condolences.

Bob and I always enjoyed Don's company. He was very witty, kind and warm and very knowledgeable. We could never beat him at Trivial Pursuit, especially Canadian Trivial Pursuit. Playing Mexican Train was another story. He didn't seem to really get that game and with a sly grin always insinuated that.... "well, these dots look like the right number and ... but they seem like the same color. Why can't I put this tile where I want it?" Ha ha. What a character!
Don and Jeanne were our role models when it came to hiking in the mountains. At almost 10 years older than us, they put us to shame. We aimed to be like them when we got to be their age.
We always had interesting, intellectual conversations and discussions with Don. He was an intelligent, well read man.
Even after his memory faded, he still greeted us with a warm smile and continued to be a charmer with the ladies, while still respectful.
The world has lost a really nice man and we have lost a good friend. Your family was lucky to have him.

A favorite memory is when Don and Jeanne lived in Winnipeg, I would pit stop on travels from Montreal and Edmonton. When Loriann and I got engaged we were driving home for family to meet her the first time and drove as far as Winnipeg first day. Don and Jeanne fed us then took us on a long bike ride stopping at Louis Riel's home on the riverbank. We were tuckered, long day and bike ride so had a great sleep before continuing East, so Don and Jeanne were the first to meet Loriann by a couple of days.
Our thoughts are with family

So sorry to hear about Uncle Don’s passing. We have many fond memories of Don and Jean in Winnipeg, Calgary and their visits to see us in Parry, Sound, Peterborough and our cottage (see photo). We will remember him for his sense of humor(his Geronimo joke was the best!) and great laugh. Love, Helen and Doug Unsworth
