When we lived in Coderre,Gertie was the best friend and neighbour I could have asked for. When I finished working at the school at 10:00 at night, I knew I could stop in for a cup of hot water and a little visit to end the day. Then there were those many times she called Josh or Catherine in on their way home from school to give them a little something to save me from making supper - some delicious hamburger soup and some "Gertie buns". She didn't need hundred-dollar baking sheets to turn out the best buns ever - I think they were cooked on sheets of stainless steel that Buns had cut to fit the oven. R.I.P., Gertie..you left us a fine example.
