Obituary of Neil Deringer
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Captain Neil Deringer (Ret'd), He went peacefully on August 13th, and was surrounded by people who loved him. He was predeceased by his father Clem and his mother Catherine. He was the older brother of Eileen (Kim) and. Glen (Nicole). He was a loving father to Brad (Sherry) and Jeff. He was the proud grandfather of Olivia, whom he loved dearly. Neil leaves behind his love Candy Adam, as well as her children Lindsay (Chris), Michelle (Lee), Mark (Chantelle), and all of Candy's wonderful grandchildren. Neil was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan in 1948.
After completing high school, he earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Regina. He met his future wife Cheryl there, and they moved to Calgary and began raising a family. Neil worked as a social worker for the City of Calgary while doing his Master's of Social Work degree at the University of Calgary. He left the civilian life behind, however, and began a military career, a career that would span over 20 years. Neil proudly served his country in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, as well as other deployments in Europe and the Middle East.
Neil retired to his hometown of Mankota in 2008. He served as the mayor and stayed active in the community. Neil will be sorely missed by all those who knew him, and as he often said, "That's it folks, I'm off on my next tour.
