Obituary of Julius Kress
Julius Arthur Lavern Kress
September 9, 1930 – January 9, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julius Kress at the age of 94, at the Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota, SK. on January 9, 2025. Family came from near and far to be by his side to comfort him on his final journey and we are confident in knowing that his loving wife, Irene, was waiting for him with open arms. Julius was born in Rosefield, SK. to Peter and Christina Kress. Julius was the fifth oldest of thirteen children.
Julius met the love of his life when his little sister, Elaine, said that he should meet the new teacher at school and Irene later became his wife. They were happily married for 69 years. During their life together, they raised four children: Joseph, Gerald, Roger and Michael.
Julius lived a life full of dedication to both his community and family. His work history paints a picture of a man committed to contributing in various ways—from his days at the apple orchard, working on the railroad to being a bus driver, a town councillor, and a member of the Lions Club. He also served as the caretaker of the Mankota low rental housing, reflecting his care for those around him.
Julius enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including dancing, sausage making, bowling, and playing cards, especially cribbage. These activities reflected his love for socializing, friendly competition, and spending quality time with family and friends. Later in life, Julius thoroughly treasured his time having coffee with the men in town. These moments were a cherished part of his daily routine, offering him a chance to connect, share stories, and enjoy the camaraderie of his community.
Despite his many roles, Julius’ heart belonged to the family farm, which served as the core of his life and a place of constant activity. He found joy in growing his cattle herd and cultivating the land, with a deep satisfaction in every aspect of farming. What set him apart was his ability to balance the hard work with making time for his children. Whether it was on the skating rink, the baseball field, or through lessons about life, he was always present. His involvement wasn’t just about being a father but about instilling important values, even when those lessons weren’t always wanted.
In essence, Julius exemplified the spirit of a hardworking, family-oriented man who left a legacy of connection and life lessons.
He was a man of quiet strength, unwavering love, and deep devotion to his family.
As a grandfather, Julius was the embodiment of patience, kindness, and generosity. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, and he was their most steadfast supporter, always their biggest fan. Whether it was fixing a toy, building something from scratch, or spending hours crafting or playing cards, he made sure that every moment spent together was filled with learning and joy. He took the time to teach, not just skills, but life lessons, imparting wisdom with such care and gentleness that his grandchildren will cherish those memories forever.
His quiet, calming presence drew people to him, especially his grandkids. He had a way of making those around him feel at peace, with his reassuring smile and soothing words. In his company, they felt safe, loved, and understood. He was a man who led by example, showing what it meant to be patient, loving, and present.
Though his voice may no longer be heard, and his hands no longer able to create, the lessons and love he gave will live on in all of us. Julius leaves behind a legacy of warmth, guidance, and unshakable love that will continue to shape the lives of his family for generations to come
“Your love has reached all of us and we appreciate all that you have taught us and we are better people because of you.”
Julius was predeceased by his wife Irene (nee Liboiron), parents Peter and Christina, siblings Wilma, Beatrice, Dorothy, Victor, Norman and Phyllis, great-grandson Parker Kress and multiple nieces and nephews.
Julius is survived by his four loving sons: Joseph (Laureen), grandchildren Terra, Dustin, Jamee (Dan) and Joleen (Doug); Gerald (Karen), grandchildren Christina, Timothy (Serena), Dalton (Nicole), Kayla (Evan), Kyle and Klinton (Cassie); Roger (Connie), grandchildren Tyler (Kristen), Brittany (Mark), Alex (Kelsey) and Jenessa (Loic); Michael (Tracey) grandchildren Mathew (Alysha) and Emily (Andrew); siblings Bernadette, Janette, Sal, Donelda, Donald and Elaine; twenty five great-grand children; many nieces and nephews.
