It is with deep sadness that the family of Shirley Rose Thuen announces her passing away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Coronach Health Centre, at the age of 78 years. Shirley is survived by her children, daughter Deborah Thuen; son Nathan Thuen; daughter Ione (Jerry) Peterson, grandson Terrence (Ieshia), great grandchildren Shaelyn, Chloe and Maverick, granddaughters Tarissa, Mikaela; son Stacy (Lesa) Thuen, grandson Jennings (Claire), grandson Jesse and granddaughter Caili; the father of her children Theoroy Thuen; sisters Darlene (Gerry) Wallis, Eleanor (Lyle) Fisher, Loretta White, Joan Thillmann, Sandra Harte (Mike Brosseau); brother Pat (Sandra) Schwindt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her sister Joyce (Feb. 26, 1942); brother Alvin (July 18, 1954); father Elmer (Sept. 10, 1968); mother Julia (Dec. 19, 1993); and daughter Mary Ann (March 31, 1957). Shirley was born to Julia (Metz) and Elmer Schwindt on the family farm at Osage, SK on July 19, 1935. She attended Lewvan school, and went on to become a certified nurse’s assistant and a trained hairdresser. Shirley married Theoroy Thuen on March 4, 1953. They lived on a farm at Harptree, SK. Shirley later moved to Moose Jaw, SK and Regina, SK, where she worked at the Wascana Hospital for a number of years and operated her own private care homes. Shirley had many loves; her passion for bargain hunting was most noted with her attendance at numerous flea markets and garage sales. She loved animals and always had a variety of pets, ranging from cats and dogs to monkeys. Shirley loved to socialize and enjoyed good food. She loved going out for steak and lobster, or a seafood feast. Shirley had a free spirit and loved to live her life her way, which always ended in an adventure with many laughs and a great story for her to tell. She had a great sense of humor and loved to shock people with her quick witted comments. She loved a good time and was the life of the party, and made sure to share her latest escapades. We will miss Shirley’s outrageous stories, contagious laugh, naughty wink and squished baking. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at the Peterson Family Farm, Bengough, SK. Urn bearers were Shirley’s grandchildren.
