Obituary of Myrtle LUMB
Myrtle Violet Lumb was born at the Mattson farm near St. Victor, SK on August 31, 1921. She attended Gondney School and took some high school by correspondence. In 1940 she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute at Outlook, SK. On October 17, 1942, Myrtle married Howard Lumb and moved to the Willows District where they farmed.
Myrtleʼs life centered around family, church and friends. She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served there as a Sunday School teacher, President and officer of E.L.W. and also sang in the choir. After retiring from the farm in 1971 and moving to Assiniboia she was active in Club 55 and was President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Myrtle was also interested in the museum and served as a director there.
Her hobbies included writing; she loved poetry and wrote about things close to her. She helped in compiling the book, "Faith, Hope and a Homestead” by writing on the Gondney District. She also wrote about her life and had articles published in "The Country Woman” and the Seniors Paper.
She enjoyed travelling and the highlight of their travels came in 1983 when they went to Europe and visited Sweden, the homeland of her parents.
In later years, she took up acrylic and water color painting which she enjoyed very much.
She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter, Sherrill McOuatt of Calgary and a foster daughter, Teresa Waldack, of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, a daughter-in-law, Lavonne Lumb of Wetaskiwin, Alberta; grandaughters, Jalene Lumb (Matt Vickaryous, great grandchildren, Isla and Piper) of Guelph, Ontario, and Shantel Lumb (Darcy Quartly, great grandchildren Sydney and Sam) of Edmonton, Crystal Smith-Gaynor (Peter, great grandchildren Kevin, Cassandra, Sunday, Nicholas) of Red Deer, and Cara Dee Smith (Troy) of Camrose, Alberta and Lindsay Madden-Quintal (Jay Quintal, great grandchildren, Baily and Jovee) of Sylvan Lake, and one grandson, Denis Madden (Shannon) of Salmon Arm, B.C.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Mattson of Assiniboia, SK. and Violet Lumb of Victoria, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 2003 and son, Ron Lumb, in 2009; her parents, Johannah and John Mattson; her brothers, Adolphe, Harold (Bernice), Walter, and George; her sisters, Esther (Mel), and Gladys (Jerry); a daughter-in-law, Gina Lumb, in 1979; son-in-law, Gordon McOuatt, in 1996; brother-in-law, Bob Lumb, sisters-in-law, Margaret McColeman (Hank), Marion Fairbairn (Arthur), Ethel Findlay (Jim).
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK.
