Obituary of Valerie GIBSON
Our Mum, grandma, sister, aunt and friend Valerie Gibson passed on Wednesday August 13, 2014, with family at her side. We are thankful knowing that another grand reunion is taking place with Dad and her sons Doug and Murray. Mum was born in Bracken, SK on Sept. 11, 1927, the first daughter of Arthur and Alice Douglas. She joined her brother Bill and was followed by her sister Vivian. Her dad was a grain buyer and the family moved several times, including stays in Woodrow and Glentworth prior to settling in Mossbank. Valerie met Hugh Gibson (an Expanse local) and they married on July 16, 1949 and became partners for life. Together they raised their family: Janice (Patrick Kennedy), Doug (Marie (Don) Boshee), Murray (Carol), and Maureen (Wes) Hutchinson. Mum was a hardworking homemaker, a welcoming host, an excellent cook, and an involved community volunteer. Her family and happiness grew with each addition and grandchild: Andrew Sept, Roxie Kennedy; Quinton (Heather Stark) and Lyndell Gibson (Chance Franklin); Jessica (Marc) Fuller, Craig (Courtney) and Megan Gibson (Nolan Klym); Kyle (Shauna), Riley (Karina Tyne), Kelsey (Jordan Godson) and Cody Hutchinson and great grandchildren: Kailey, Kevin, Sterling, Riley, Ty, Josh, Jorja, Harper, Anique and Ryker. She is also survived by her devoted sister Vivian, sisters-in-law Agnes and Marion and loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Service was held at the Mossbank United Church, officiated by Wendy Gibson, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. The eulogy was shared by Kelsey Hutchinson. Urn bearers were Valerie’s Grandchildren. Organist was Chris Faris. Hymns were "Part of the Family,” "In the Bulb,” "Best Be the Tie That Binds” and "Blue Skies.” Internment took place at the Mossbank Cemetery. Memorials gratefully received to the Mossbank United Church, Mossbank and District Museum or to the charity of your choice. We wish to also thank all those who provided kindness and care to Mum at Prairie Villa and Ross Payant Nursing Home.
