Obituary of Donald ELLIS
With profound sadness we announce the passing on August 17, 2014, of our beloved husband and father, Don Ellis, following complications of diabetes and pneumonia.
Predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Ethel (nee Dunlap) Ellis, and by sister Berna Prinz, he will be greatly missed by his wife Jessie and son Nick Langshaw (Mary Ann); grandchildren Alex (Sherman) and Jon (partner Courtney); and great-granddaughter Ella; also by his sisters Mildred (Ted Knudsen), Thelma Roycroft, and Audrey Kennedy, and dear nieces and nephews.
Born November 16, 1930, in Limerick, Saskatchewan, his career as a teacher in Manitoba and Saskatchewan has been marked in retirement by visits, letters, and phone calls from many of the students he taught.
His exceptional memory and love of genealogy and travel brought a large international circle of friends in several parts of Canada, Australia, the UK, USA, and Northern Ireland.
The affinity and respect he had for nature made him a gifted gardener, with a special joy in dogs and birds.
He will be remembered for his genuine love of people and his quiet wit, and especially for the daily telephone support he provided for a number of years to seniors living alone and facing their final illnesses.
A Service and Reception will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, 12996 60th Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia.
A second Service will be held at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, on Friday, August 29, at 2 p.m., followed by private placement in Limerick Cemetery by family members.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
