Obituary of Edith WILKINSON

Edith Florence May Wilkinson of Lafleche, SK, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the age of 86 years. Edith was born May 19, 1928 in Woodrow, SK, to Harold and Ruby Jaycock. Edith attended Sunbeam School in the Wood River school district, where she studied for her elementary and high school years. In her spare time she loved to work on her parents farm, and this is where her unconditional love for nature began. Once she graduated from Grade 12, Edith moved to the YWCA in Regina and attended Success Business college to become a stenographer. This allowed her to later get a job with the Provincial Government in the department of Agriculture. Edith made many friends during this time, including June and Mike Rabbetz who introduced her to Jim Wilkinson. On June 25, 1949, Edith married Jim and they began their beautiful journey as husband and wife. They had two children, Marlene and Lloyd, and spent a lot of time taking them camping all over western Canada and parts of the USA in a green school bus that was converted into a camper. Edith was an active member of Wascana United Church and, when she wasn't taking care of her children, she was busy helping with the annual fall dinners, visiting parishioners, friends and family in hospital and those confined to their homes. She loved to make scrapbooks with pictures of animals, babies and scenery and dropped them off at the hospitals so patients could look at them to cheer them up. Edith accomplished many things in her life and meant so much to so many. She was a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend, and an outstanding member of the church. Edith was a kind, soft spoken, well mannered woman. She loved nature, animals, flowers, gardening, reading, and doing puzzles. She took pride and happiness in the little things, and taught her family that richness wasn't about money and wealth, rather than what could put a smile on your face. Edith will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends, and memories of her will be forever cherished. Edith is survived by her daughter Marlene McPhee; grandchildren Jamie and Justin; cousin Kevin Passmore; & numerous cousins. Predeceased by her husband James Wilkinson; parents Harold and Ruby (nee Downham) Jaycock. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lafleche United Church, Lafleche, SK, with Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach officiant. A special tribute was shared by Jamie McPhee. Interment took place at the Woodrow Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Edith to the Arthritis Society of Saskatchewan, Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, and the CNIB, were greatly appreciated.
