Obituary of Louis Gaucher
Louis Armand Gaucher of Coderre, SK passed away on November 16, 2014, at the age of 90. Louis was born in the Coderre district on February 8, 1924. He was one of twelve children born to Emile and Blandine (nee Gringras) Gaucher. Louis attended Croquest country school, completed Grade 10 in Coderre, and then took a machine shop course at Peacock in Moose Jaw. After the course, he worked in Regina making carriage guns for the war. In 1941, he returned to Coderre to help his father with the harvest. In the fall of 1942, Louis went back to school in Coderre and completed his Grade 11 and 12. He then went on to complete one year at the University of Saskatchewan but did not have the financial means to complete his education. Louis returned to the Coderre district and worked tirelessly to earn enough money to purchase his first piece of land. Louis married Yvette Huel on November 17, 1952, and they were blessed with four boys. Louis was a determined and tireless worker; he farmed, hauled gravel, built roads, was a machinist, and was able to create and repair just about anything. Louis’ children have many fond memories of working on the farm with him, and they learned how to work from Louis’ example. Louis always said, "Work never hurt anyone,” and "The harder I work, the luckier I get!” He liked to run from one piece of equipment to the next because, even at age 85, walking took too much time. Louis was a community volunteer, and helped to raise money for the first rink in Coderre. He coached and managed all four of his boys’ hockey teams, and maintained the ice at the rink for many years. He was instrumental in starting the first Credit Union in Coderre, and was a member of the Coderre Board of Education for many years. Louis loved to laugh and was a jokester. He was a man of deep faith, and attended Mass every Sunday. He was generous with his time, and the family has many fond memories of summer holidays, fishing, golfing, and playing table tennis and pool together. Louis’ skiing adventures began at age 56 when he was touring Europe with Larry. They took a day to go skiing in the Alps, and ever since that trip Louis had taken many ski trips with his family until he was 80 years old. A great man was lost, but Heaven has now gained a great soul, and if there is any work to be done there, Louis will be sure to get it done.
Louis is survived by his wife of 62 years Yvette Gaucher (nee Huel); son Alain (Cindi) Gaucher, grandson Ryan (Jaclyn) Gaucher, great grandchildren Aden, Ella, grandson Joel Gaucher, granddaughter Kerri (Eric) Ligtenberg, great grandson Logan; son Larry (Kathy) Gaucher, grandson Ben (Tianna) Gaucher, great grandchildren Sam, Brodie, granddaughter Janea Gaucher, granddaughter Michelle Gaucher; son Paul (Lisa) Gaucher; son Frank (Bernie) Gaucher, grandson Cole Gaucher, granddaughter Jesanne Gaucher; sister Helene (Dave) Seager, Diane (Ed) Yohemas; brother Olivier Gaucher; sisters-in-law Laurianne Gaucher, Delores Gaucher, Marilyn Gaucher, Eleanor Gaucher; brother-in-law Gerald Wirges.
