Obituary of Mabel Bardal

Mabel Caroline Bardal (nee Bowler) was born in the Palmer district on February 6, 1920, to Joseph and Louise Bowler. She passed away on November 25, 2014, at Assiniboia, SK, with her family at her side, at the age of 94. Mabel grew up on the family homestead that was situated just north of the village of Palmer, SK. In July of 1937 she met Egil Bardal, and in October 1939 they were married. They lived for four years on a farm south of Mazenod, SK before settling at Palmer in 1943. They built a home together in Palmer and farmed just south of town. In 1998 they moved the home that Egil built to the town of Assiniboia. She lost the love of her life and husband Egil in 2002; they had been married for 63 years before his passing. Shortly after losing Egil, her eldest daughter Marie passed away in 2004, and then in 2009 her daughter Doris passed away. In 2005 Mabel moved to an apartment in the East Side Court and in November 2013 she moved to the Prairie Villa, both in Assiniboia. Mabel is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Louise Bowler, her lifetime partner and husband Egil Bardal, daughters Marie Thronberg and Doris Miller, son-in-law Einar Thronberg, brothers Fred Bowler and Chuck Bowler, sisters-in-law Gladys Bowler and Norma Bowler. She is survived by three children, Ernest (Vera) Bardal of St. Paul, AB, Irene (Richard) Poirier of Fernie, BC, Gary (Bev) Bardal of Medicine Hat, AB, son-in-law Bruce Miller of Thomson Lake, SK. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Throughout her life she belonged to a number of bowling and curling leagues, and participated in numerous tournaments and bonspiels. She bowled right up to the age of 91 and was very proud of this accomplishment. Mabel’s greatest loves in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed every moment spent with her family, and often shared stories with them, which they will treasure forever. Mabel will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends, and will be forever in their hearts.
