Obituary of Bonnie Bracken

Bonnie Bracken (Reid) was born in Gull Lake, SK, on January 29, 1949. During her childhood, she lived in the towns of Verlo, Swift Current and Chaplin. As her school years progressed, her unique personality began to emerge. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at Royal University Hospital, in Saskatoon, for 5 years. She then went on to complete her Nursing Diploma and began her career with Correctional Services of Canada where she was employed for 25 years. She worked at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert, treating and counseling high risk offenders. This type of work became her passion and she made a difference in the lives of many patients. Upon retirement, Bonnie relocated to southern Saskatchewan where she purchased an Eaton’s Catalog house on an acreage near Limerick, SK. She contributed to the community by volunteering at the local nursing homes and with Victim Services. Bonnie had a colorful personality and valued quality relationships. Bonnie stuck to her values, fought her own battles, and stood up for what she believed in. Doing right always surpassed her fears of persecution or ridicule. She was a woman of integrity and didn’t suffer fools gladly. Bonnie loved all animals. She took pleasure in the simple things in life, such as the Prairies, fond memories, nostalgia, and war time music. Bonnie passed away peacefully in hospital with her son and friends by her side on April 13, 2015. Bonnie is survived by her son Errin Carruthers, her brother Lance Reid and his family, her dogs Joe & Lola, her cat Ned, and her special friends Shelley, Michelle, Marg, & Lynn. She is predeceased by her mother, Marjorie Powell, and her daughter, Dena Lee Carruthers. Special thanks to Don and Marlene Bushell for their friendship and assistance to Bonnie over the years. A memorial will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity United Church, Limerick, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, Stn.
