Obituary of Alice McGillis

Alice McGillis of Gravelbourg, SK passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the age of 75 years. Alice was born on May 6, 1940, at the family farm near Willow Bunch. She was the oldest of six children born to Emile and Antoinette (nee Mathieu) Fouquet. Alice attended school in Willow Bunch, and was always on hand to help her mother with the younger children. She fondly spoke of her about her younger years in Willow Bunch, walking the hills with her family and friends, guitar in hand, having sing-a-longs. While in high school Alice met Alphonse McGillis. It was a cold, wintery day, and Alice had wanted to go skating but didn’t have a nickel. She spied Alphonse on the ice and worked up the courage to ask to borrow a nickel. From that moment on it was true love. Alice and Alphonse began their courtship, and soon were planning their wedding. After their wedding, Alice and Alphonse moved to Moose Jaw for a short time. It was there that they were blessed with Joann and Dan. They then moved to Gravelbourg, and the family expanded with Suzanne, Colette and Lise. As the children got older, they kept Alice busy with brownies, girl guides and hockey, and Alice went on many trips to all of the different events that each one of them had. Alice loved having people around, and she truly believed the more the merrier. This became evident when her children would each come home with many friends. Alice loved the commotion and enjoyed joking and teasing with them. When grandchildren began arriving the joking and teasing continued. Alice loved the time that she spent with her children and grandchildren, and was always reminiscing about funny stories with each of them. Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Alice is survived by her loving family, daughter Joann Allen, granddaughter Andrea, great grandchildren Dustyn and Kadyn, granddaughter Daniela, grandson Bradley(Jude), great granddaughter Taylor; son Dan (Marnia) McGillis, grandson Bryce (Samantha), great grandson Dreyden, granddaughter Melissa (Dylan), great granddaughters Leylah and Gabriella; daughter Suzanne (Chris) Anderson, granddaughter Chantelle (Aaron), great grandchildren Tiarra, Avery, Isaiah, Jaxson, grandson Michael; daughter Colette (Wilfrid) Toupin, granddaughter Tenessa, grandson Tanner (Kayla), great grandson Linden; daughter Lise McGillis, grandson Tyler, great grandson Lyric, granddaughter Amanda, grandson Christopher, great granddaughter Mikaela, great granddaughter Kaetlinn; sisters Marcella (Alvin) Weninger, Jacqueline (Norman) LaRochelle; brothers John (Helen) Fouquet, Raymond (Gail) Fouquet; sister-in-law Bev Fouquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
