Obituary of Yvette Fauchon

Yvette Fauchon of Assiniboia, SK passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the age of 92 years. Yvette was born May 3, 1923 in Willow Bunch, SK to parents Cleophas and Evelina Champigny and was the youngest of 9 children. She was raised on the family farm until she finished grade 8 in the Alexis country school. Then the family moved to Willow Bunch and at the age of 17, she finished grade 12 at the convent. She then attended Teacher’s College or Normal School in Moose Jaw leaving before the year finished to teach at country schools. She eventually landed in Medicine Hat, AB teaching as a substitute teacher. In 1944, which was during WWII, she left for Ajax, ON to work in a munitions plant. It was an adventure working there, traveling about and singing for the soldiers during the evenings. She was asked to stay with a band and be the leader and sing, she refused and returned to Saskatchewan, to her committed teaching position. Later she traveled to Montreal to take a hair dresser’s course, came back to Willow Bunch and opened a salon. She kept her business for 4 years. Yvette married Rene Fauchon on October 16, 1950 in Willow Bunch in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Aline and her husband to be, Emile Rodrigue. They settled on the Fauchon family farm near Ferland, SK and remained there for 14 years. During that time Gerry was born in 1951, Dan in 1959 and Lianne in 1961. The family left the farm in 1965 and moved to Gravelbourg, SK as farming 2 quarters of land and driving bus held no real future. In August, 1968 they made their final move to Assiniboia, SK. During the 70’s she worked at Eatons, Sears and then at the Assiniboia Times as a proof reader. She loved that job and worked there for 6 years. She even did a stint as editor until a new one was hired from Ontario. She didn’t care for that job at all and was eager for someone to take over. She was very involved in St George’s Catholic Church. She was a CWL member for 40+ years, held many positions as a member and was very dedicated. She joined the church choir and was choir leader for 25 - 30 yrs. She started singing at 13 and it was her passion her whole life. She had no formal training but sang like she had. She sang at mass, weddings and funerals. She brought pleasure to people when they were celebrating or solace when they were grieving. After Rene passed away in 2002 she stayed in her house for 6 more years before moving to Eastside Court apartments. She was skeptical she would ever be happy there, however, she loved her new friends, kept very busy and loved her independence. She played bridge at Club 55, cards in the common room in the apartment building, potluck, suppers, outings and activities. She had a great social life. She loved life and lived it to the fullest and last years were very good to her, she was so happy. Her fall in August, 2014 changed everything for her. She made the move to Prairie Villa in November, 2014 with reluctance, suffering, with pain and was not well. In January, 2015 she made her final move to Ross-Payant Nursing Home, needing much more care. She passed away Jun 24, 2015 from a long painful battle with cancer. Yvette was predeceased by her husband Rene in 2002, her 5 brothers Jerome, Jeovah, Jean, Orphis and Joffre; 3 sisters Juliette, twins Helene and Aline.
