Obituary of Daniel Bouvier

Daniel Joseph Louis Bouvier passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’Youville, Gravelbourg, SK on October 25, 2015, at the age of 84 years. He was born on August 16, 1931 to Honorious and Eva (nee Landry) Bouvier on the family farm at Meyronne, SK. He attended Meyronne Separate School and Spiral School. School was not easy in the beginning as Daniel only spoke French and lessons were in English. As he grew up he helped his father with chores and farm work. In 1948, Daniel went to work in the oilfield, after CPR as well as helping neighbors on their farms. From 1949 - 1953 he worked in Saskatchewan and Alberta installing phone lines. In 1955, at a dance in Mankota, SK, he met his lifelong love Theresa Schafer. They were married on November 28, 1956. They lived in Meyronne until July of 1958, and then moved to the Bouvier farm south of Meyronne. There, they raised their six children: Charlotte, Julie-Anne, Claudette, Norman, Mark and Vincent. Daniel loved the farm but his cattle were his pride and joy. He loved his animals. He was great with horses and could train them to do just about anything. The dog was never far away and the cats would form a train behind him as he walked around the yard. He always had a huge garden with loads of potatoes and Peaches and Cream corn, which he was always happy to share. He enjoyed reading, curling, bowling, fishing, hunting and playing 500 with his family on the lawn. Daniel was very active in the community. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. He served on the School Board, Church Board, Rink Board, Community Pasture Board, the Fire Board, the Credit Union Board and the Hall Board. In 2003, Daniel suffered an Aortic Aneurism and his health began to fail, but through it all he tried to remain positive. Daniel loved his family and his grandchildren were the light in his eyes. He had an impromptu jig that he would do when he was happy and having fun and that will be remembered by all who knew him. Daniel is survived by his loving family, wife Theresa; daughter Charlotte Bouvier, granddaughter Cherise, great-grandson Camilo; daughter Julie-Anne (Al) Koenig, granddaughter Michelle, granddaughter Toni (Norm), great-grandchildren Dezary, Cole, Bailey, Armond, Francis; daughter Claudette (Ronald) Harris, grandson Levi; son Norman Bouvier (Michelle Taylor); son Mark Bouvier (Patti Broeffle), son Vincent Bouvier, grandchildren Jacie, Shaylyn, Lawrence, Morgan; son-in-law Paul Thibault (Sarah); daughter-in-law Sherry Bouvier; sisters Jean Brault, Thérèsa Thomas, Marie Gavelin; sister-in-law Lilian Bouvier and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Predeceased by his parents Honorious and Eva Bouvier; brothers Eugène Landry, Alex Bouvier, Magloire Bouvier, Raymond Bouvier; sister Cécile Lalonde; brothers-in-law John Thomas, Ellis Gavelin and Adolphe Lalonde.
