Obituary of Marie-Jeanne Campagne

C’est avec beaucoup de tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Marie Jeanne Sophie Campagne (née Mathieu). Elle est décédée à l’âge de 98 ans, le 7 novembre 2015, au Foyer Valade, à Winnipeg au Manitoba. Elle rejoint au ciel son bien aimé époux, Henri Jean Campagne ; ses parents, Joseph-Adhémar Mathieu et Marie Alma Rondeau qui venaient du Québec; tous ses frères et sœurs, Sr Marie-Blanche Mathieu, Antoinette Fouquet (Émile), Sr Marie Alice Mathieu, Flore Morse (Dearrl), Marcelle Mathieu, Charles Mathieu (Anita) et son frère adopté Marcel Whitmore (Blanche) ; ainsi que son petit-fils Henri. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses sept enfants, Aimé (Louise), Colette Balcaen (Maurice), Flore Lemieux, Gérard, Danielle, Rosemarie (Mimi) Iafolla (Bill) et Jean-Pierre ; ses huit petits-enfants, Lise Mitchell (William), Andrée Thomas (Wilfort) et leur mère Émilienne ; Serge (Nicole), Charles (Geraldine) et Michel Balcaen (Lianne) ; Eli Lemieux (Candice) ; Paul (Amanda) et Nicole Iafolla ; ses neuf arrières petits-enfants, maints neveux et nièces, cousins et cousines. Marie Jeanne est née le 24 juin 1917, à Willow Bunch SK où elle a grandi et épousé Henri en 1944. En 1949, ils sont déménagés à Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes MB, à Saint-Boniface en 1962, de retour à Willow Bunch en 1988 et à Saint-Vital en 1999. Elle a enseigné près d’Aldina SK durant la guerre, et après être retournée terminer ses études à l’Université du Manitoba en 1968, elle a enseigné à l’École Saint-Norbert, à l’École Sacré-Cœur et à St. Edward’s School. Elle a pris sa retraite en 1982. Elle avait aussi été secrétaire de l’École Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes de 1958 à 1962 et avait aidé à la réalisation de la nouvelle école. Elle était très douée en musique et à partir de l’âge de 12 ans, partout où elle vivait, elle était organiste d’église : Saint-Ignace-des-Saules SK, la Cathédrale de Regina, Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes, Sacré Cœur (l’église belge qui était sur la rue Plinguet, à Saint-Boniface), la Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface et l’Église Saint-Eugène, à Saint-Vital. Elle avait été présidente des Parents et maîtres » à Saint-Boniface, membre de plusieurs comités liturgiques et culturels, traductrice et bras droit de plusieurs prêtres et bénévole auprès de maintes œuvres de charité. Elle était une excellente cuisinière, couturière, jardinière, écrivaine, éducatrice, musicienne, raconteuse d’histoires, mais avant tout Marie Jeanne était une épouse, mère de famille, grand-mère et arrière-grand-mère très aimante et dévouée. Elle nous manquera énormément. La famille tient à remercier le personnel du Foyer Valade pour les excellents soins qu’ils lui ont accordés. Les funérailles ont eu lieu le 14 novembre, à l’Église Saint-Eugène, 1007, chemin St. Mary’s, Winnipeg MB et l’enterrement a eu lieu le 16 novembre, au cimetière catholique de Willow Bunch SK. Au lieu de fleurs, ceux et celles qui le désirent pourront faire un don pour des messes à la Paroisse Saint-Eugène, au Foyer Valade ou à une autre œuvre de charité. Peacefully, on November 7, 2015, Marie Jeanne Sophie Campagne (née Mathieu) passed away at the age of 98 years old, at Foyer Valade in Winnipeg, MB. She was predeceased by her loving husband: Henri Jean Campagne; her parents: Joseph-Adhémar Mathieu and Marie Alma Rondeau who came from Québec; all her brothers and sisters: Sr. Marie-Blanche Mathieu, Antoinette Fouquet (Emile), Sr. Marie Alice Mathieu, Flore Morse (Dearrl), Marcelle Mathieu, Charles Mathieu (Anita), her adopted brother Marcel Whitmore (Blanche); and her grandson Henri. She will forever be remembered by her seven children: Aimé (Louise), Colette Balcaen (Maurice), Flore Lemieux, Gérard, Danielle, Rosemarie (Mimi) Iafolla (Bill), and Jean-Pierre; her eight grandchildren: Lise Mitchell (William), Andrée Thomas (Wilfort), and their mother Émilienne; Serge (Nicole), Charles (Geraldine) and Michel Balcaen (Lianne); Eli Lemieux (Candice); Paul (Amanda) and Nicole Iafolla; her nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marie Jeanne was born June 24, 1917 in Willow Bunch, SK where she grew up and married Henri in 1944. In 1949, they moved to Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes, MB, in St. Boniface in 1962, back to Willow Bunch in 1988, and in St. Vital in 1999. She was a school teacher near Aldina in northern Saskatchewan during the war, and after returning to the University of Manitoba in 1968, she taught at École Saint-Norbert, École Sacré-Coeur and St. Edward's School. She retired in 1982. She had also been school secretary in Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes from 1958 to 1962. She was a very talented musician and from the age of 12, she played the organ in every parish where she lived: Saint-Ignace-des-Saules in Willow Bunch, Regina Cathedral, Sacred Heart Belgian Church in St. Boniface, Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface, and l'Église Saint-Eugène. She had been president of "Parents et maîtres" in St. Boniface, member of several cultural and religious committees, translator and helper for many priests and volunteer for many charitable organizations. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, gardener, writer, educator, musician and story teller, but above all she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed dearly. The family would like to thank the staff at Foyer Valade for the kind care they provided her. The funeral was held at l'Église Saint-Eugène, 1007 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB, November 14, 2015, and the burial took place November 16, at the Willow Bunch Cemetery in Willow Bunch SK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Église St-Eugène for masses, Foyer Valade or a charity of your choice.
