Obituary of Bill Douglass

Bill, also fondly known as WT passed away peacefully Monday February 1st, 2016, in his 88th year. Bill loved his Gloria (nee Fisher) for well over 65 years. He was adored by his four children; Brent and wife Barb, Barry and wife Sue, Barb and Deed and husband Bernie Mann. His twelve grandchildren; Jory (Lindsay), Scott (Kelsey), Michael (Crystal), Stefanie (Cody), Riley, Madison (Trent), Tommy, Rory, McMillan, McKenzie, Carlie (Wes) and Andrew each treasure special memoires of their loving grandpa. Bill took sheer delight in his five great-grandchildren; Harley, Blaise, Sophie, Isla and Bowen. Bill is survived by; his devoted sister Hazel Girolami and brother Jerry (Eldora) and loving sister-in-law’s Cherry Lewis (nee Fisher) and Audrey McGovern (nee Fisher) as well as cherished nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his much loved parents Kate and George Douglass, beloved mother & father in-law Sadie and Jack Fisher, his ‘mischievous brother-in-law’s’-Frank Caldwell, Henry Girolami, Ginger Willard, Ted McGovern and Chuck Lewis and lively sister-in-law’s Norma Fisher, Flo Willard and Betty Caldwell. Bill was born September 15, 1927 on the Phillipson homestead north of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. In 1958, Bill and Gloria with their four children left Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to return to his birthplace Gravelbourg. WT’s life journeys heartened many expanses from business man, farmer, and volunteer. Over his life-time he was involved with BPOE (Elks), Masons of Canada-Master Mason and Bill, is a life-time member with the Lions Foundation of Canada. As owner of Parkview Motors, WT’s customers or coffee regulars experienced firsthand his hospitable nature, humor and integrity. Others may have shared his passion for the land and horses where his wisdom and compassion were revealed. Some may have joined or heard the renditions of his many fishing expeditions which affirmed his zest for adventure and fun! We would be remiss if we did not mention WT’s love for buying and selling. In his later years with more time, he perfected the art of buying and selling at ‘auction sales’. This was his heaven on earth! Aside from his gift of buying and selling was that of his true gift… giving and caring! WT’s work is done here. His Earth School Report Card…shows "A+” as a husband, father, grand/great grandpa, friend and humanitarian. WT left his family and friends a legacy of integrity, loyalty, kindness, hospitality, generosity, humor, wisdom, and truthfulness. The family is planning a celebration of WT’s life which will be held at a later date. This occasion will be a time for family and friends to celebrate WT’s virtues and (possibly some minute vices). Further notice will be forthcoming with the details. If desired, donations in memory of WT can be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital-Foyer d’Youville or Gravelbourg Lions Club.
