Anna E. Eklund, at 91 years of age from Mankota, Sask. passed away on Feb. 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg, Sask. Annie was born on March 26, 1924 at Ben Sheppard’s Maternity Home north of Mankota. She was the only child of Nels and Katherine Olson. They lived a quiet life on a small farm south of Mankota. She was predeceased by her parents: Nels, on April 18, 1962, her mother Katherine, on July 29, 1969 and her husband Lloyd on Mar.25, 2005. She leaves to mourn her all Lloyd’s relatives, friends and some distant relatives in United States. She met Lloyd Eklund in the 60’s. They were married on November 29, 1963. Her Dad had died the year before so they lived on the Olson farm south of Mankota. Annie continued to do farm work and housecleaning for anyone that needed the help, as well as farm her own land. Annie’s life centered around her pets and her music. She later took piano lessons from Nata Frostad and Betty Baragar. She was very proud of her Conservatory Grade 7 in music. She taught piano to many of the neighbor children. Some of her students were: Ruth, Rosalie and Linda Calvin, Marina and Joan Miller, Rick and Lynn Gebhart, Shyla McCrea, Jackie and Jenna Cupples. In later life, she started Dillon McCrea and Sylvia Wickham on guitar. We will all miss Annie’s truly unique personality which brightened our lives.
