Obituary of Margaret BERUBE

Margaret Lucille Berube passed away peacefully at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Assiniboia, SK on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the age of 91 years, with family at her side. She was the fourth and last surviving child of Arcade and Marie-Ange (Lefebvre) Bourgeois. She was born on January 12, 1922, and raised in Gravelbourg, SK where she attended boarding school. She met the love of her life Raymond Berube at a dance in Lafleche and they married in 1943. After moving around for a short period, they settled into life on the farm in the Lafleche district. They had three daughters; Camille in 1944, Lorraine 1945 and Jeane in 1953. Margo was a wonderful homemaker and devoted wife, working alongside Raymond on the farm. She was an exceptional cook, specializing in sweets. Her and Raymond loved playing cards, having shuffleboard tournaments, or sharing laughs and fellowship with friends. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, sightseeing and visiting family in Canada and the United States. Later in life she dearly enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee and a piece of her home baked apple pie or fudge with friends. Raymond was her everything. When he passed away, it took Margo a long time to deal with that and figure out her new path in life. She loved her family and visited with her grandchildren as often as she could. The family members farther away, she kept pictures out which she proudly displayed and kept in contact through letters and phone calls. She was incredibly well versed, constantly studying the news and current events and waited anxiously each day to get the Leader Post. Reading was a great pastime and biographies were her favorite. She was a loving, caring, giving person with a feisty attitude who will be dearly missed. She is predeceased by her husband Raymond Berube (1991) and infant daughter Lorraine (1945). Her siblings Roger Bourgeois, Aline Denis, Jean Bourgeois, Yvette Clermont and Gerard Bourgeois. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Camille (Gary) Goranson of Boynton Beach, FL and Jeane (Leonard) Hicks of Lafleche, SK; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at Ste Radegonde Roman Catholic Church, Lafleche, SK. The eulogy was given by Jodie Atkinson, Brad Hicks, Darrin Hicks. Readers were Angela Hicks, Lynn Hicks. Prayers of the Faithful were shared by Jodie Atkinson. Offertory Gifts and roses were presented by Jakob Atkinson, Lukas Atkinson, Cooper Atkinson, Colton Hicks and Jorja Hicks. Soloist was Jackie Poirier accompanied by Glenda Crooks. Pallbearers were Darrin Hicks, Brad Hicks, Dale Atkinson, Russ Hicks. Interment took place at the Lafleche Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in Margaret’s memory to the Lafleche and District Health Fund Inc., Box 250, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0 or the Ste Radegonde Building Fund Box 518 Lafleche, SK SOH 2K0 and mass intentions were greatly appreciated..
