Obituary of Bill Rust
William "Bill" Rust of Limerick, SK, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, at the age of 106 years. Bill was born on April 5, 1910 in Pilot Butte, SK, the eighth of ten children born to Martin and Caroline (nee Wolfe) Rust. The family moved from Pilot Butte to the Stonehenge District in May of 1910, after his father obtained a homestead. Bill attended school at Twelve Mile Lake, where he completed the 8th grade. In 1927, while helping his father thresh at the Gottleib and Eva Feser farm, Bill met his future wife, Madeline Feser. They married eight years later, on November 6, 1937. Bill and Madeline bought land at St. Victor and farmed there until the fall of 1941, when they moved back to the Stonehenge area. Bill repaired the house on the farm and they lived there until 1945, when they bought a house in Limerick. They moved there with their four children, Dolores, Elaine, Francis and Darryl. Merle arrived in 1948. Bill farmed from town and worked as a construction laborer for several grain elevator companies. During the winter months, he looked after the old skating and curling rinks. In 1973, Bill retired. He took an upholstery class in Weyburn and worked at home part-time with his new vocation. Limerick was their home for 63 years. Bill moved to Assiniboia on December 5, 2008, to be closer to Madeline, who had moved to Ross Payant Nursing Home. Bill was able to make the short walk between his cottage and the nursing home every day to spend time with Madeline. Bill was very interested in current events and followed new developments closely. He read a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed his favourite newspaper, "The Western Producer." In Assiniboia, Bill kept busy with "paperwork," which usually referred to the farm. He was always a farmer at heart, and kept in touch with farm issues through his sons. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbours, talking about anything from weather to farming. He also enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill held many titles, such as husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, great-great grandpa, uncle, neighbour, friend, fixer of things, and of course, farmer. Bill had a good life in his 106 years. He enjoyed good health, a large and loving family, and satisfying work. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who have many years of special memories to comfort them. Bill is survived by his loving family, son Francis (Karen) Rust; son Darryl (Pearl) Rust; son Merle (Wanda) Rust; sons-in-law Gilbert Chase and Leeland Sand; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Madeline Rust (2013); daughters Dolores Sand (2001) and Elaine Chase (2015); grandsons Graham Rust and Kelly Chase; grandson-in-law Noel Anderson; parents Martin and Caroline Rust.
