Obituary of Ted Legault

Theodore Georges Legault of Gravelbourg, SK, passed away on July 5, 2016, at the age of 77 years. Ted was born on July 17, 1938, in Gravelbourg, SK. He was the seventh of eight children born to Donat and Ludivine (nee Morin) Legault. Since 1941, the corner of Main and 6th Avenue East was known as the Legault Corner. The hardware business was started by Ted's father and carried on by Ted and his siblings, Gerald, Germaine, and Blanche. While working at the hardware store, Ted was also a member of the town council. The closing of Legault's hardware in Gravelbourg in 2002 marked the passing of an era in the history of the Legault family, and the town of Gravelbourg. Ted retired upon the closing of the store but remained active with a small glazing business. Ted married Janet Munn on April 14, 1968, and they were blessed with two children, Denise and Jerome. They lived on a quarter section of land just north of Gravelbourg, amid the many trees Ted carefully planted. He not only planted many trees at the Legault farm but also at Gravelbourg and Thomson Lake. They now constitute a small forest of green on the prairie. Ted had a love of words, both written and sung. Many still remember his farewell address to the Sisters of Jesus and Mary on the occasion of their final departure from Gravelbourg. He especially enjoyed the music of Sarah Brightman and Chris Christopherson, and was often moved to tears when listening to beautiful music. Ted especially enjoyed the works of Shakespeare and often quoted the many plays and sonnets. Ted had a kind heart, and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!" Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Ted is predeceased by his wife Janet (nee Munn) 2013; sisters Jeannette (John) Szabo and Blanche Pariseau; sisters-in-law Helene Legault and Veronica Legault; brother-in-law Marcel LeBlanc. He is survived by his daughter Denise Legault; son Jerome Legault; siblings Lily LeBlanc, Germaine Legault, Gerald Legault, Leonard Legault, Laurette (Pierre) LaChapelle; brother-in-law Ben Pariseau; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Hope Klutsey celebrant. Cross bearer was Marc Legault. Readers were Gig Pariseau and Chris Szabo. Intentions were shared by Antoine Tremblay. Offertory gifts were presented by Denise Legault, Luc Legault, and Mathieu Legault. The eulogy was written by Nicole Tremblay and Roland Legault, and read by Nicole Tremblay. Urn bearer was Denise Legault. Soloist Andre Moquin was accompanied by organist Leona Bourgeois. Interment took place at the Gravelbourg Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Ted to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, and Friends of the Convent, Box 390, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated.
