Obituary of Glenda Crooks

Glenda Mary Ellen Crooks of Lafleche, SK, passed away on August 18, 2016, at the age of 67 years. Glenda was born on January 22, 1949. She was the beloved daughter of George and Mary Ellen "Nellie" (nee Morin) Crooks, and sister to Lloyd (Marilyn) Crooks (2015), Laurina (Dennis) Ghiglione, Elnora Crooks (1950), Gloria (Sterling) McIvor, Valerie (Eric) Kolish, Mark (Doreen) Crooks, Colleen (Jerry) Andries, Clinton (Cheryl) Crooks (2012), Richard Crooks, and Elaine (John) Garies. The family lived on a farm eight miles south of Lafleche. Glenda took her schooling at Wood Dale and Mathieu School. She began working at the Lafleche Co-op at the age of seventeen and worked there for fifteen months until she was offered a job in Swift Current at the OK Economy. After three and a half years, Glenda was transferred to Regina as head cashier. Six years later she decided to try something different, and began working for General Motors as a service advisor. She was later approached to manage Glencairn Texaco, where she worked until it was sold to Esso. She also worked at a pharmacy and the Kenosee Golf Course. No matter where Glenda was, she always found time to come back to the family farm and help with harvest, a time she enjoyed very much. In the fall of 1989 Glenda moved back to Lafleche and bought a house in town. Glenda enjoyed gardening and spend a lot of time working in her yard. She was very involved in the church working as the parish worker for a number of years as well as playing the organ. She spent her time volunteering at the Lafleche Health Centre and later became the activity co-ordinator at the Wheatland Lodge. She was an avid golfer, and loved to do jigsaw puzzles, play cards, and look after her cat Prince. Glenda enjoyed visiting with her many nieces and nephews and always loved the time she spend with them. She had a great sense of community spirit, and enjoyed attending events in town. Glenda will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., at Ste Radegonde Roman Catholic Church, Lafleche, SK. Celebrant was Father Hope Klutsey. Cross bearer was Vera Crooks and altar servers were Basil Crooks and Miles Crooks. Readers were Coral Ghiglione and Mandy Andries. Prayers of the faithful were shared by Mary Crooks, Whitney Crooks and Angie Hicks. Offertory gifts were presented by Mindy Kelly and Trudy Sewell. The church choir was directed by Betty-Ann Tallon and accompanied by organist Jackie Poirier. Vocalists were John Garies and Nicole Garies. Active pallbearers were Jonathan McIvor, Todd Andries, Dustin Garies, Matthew Garies, Justin Crooks, and Lincoln Crooks. An honour guard was formed by the Lafleche and Gravelbourg Health Care Staff as well as Thomson Lake Ladies Golf Club. Interment took place at the Lafleche Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Glenda to the Ste Radegonde Roman Catholic Church, Box 518, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0, or the Lafleche and District Health Fund for the Activity Department, Box 250, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0, were greatly appreciated.
