Obituary of Therese Fournier

Thérèse Françoise Fournier passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’ Youville, Gravelbourg, SK, on September 16, 2016, with family at her side. Thérèse was born on the Monette homestead Sec 04-07-07 W3 south of Meyronne on June 17, 1925. She spent her earlier years with her two oldest brothers Gerard and Marcel and attended a country school. From grade 6 onward, she attended a Mathieu Convent in Lafleche, SK, where she boarded until she graduated in 1943. At the Convent she learned to play classical piano. She played beautiful pieces like Robin’s Return, Napoleon’s Last Charge and many more. This musical gift would span a lifetime. At the age of 18, Thérèse met the love of her life, Louis Fournier at a wedding dance in Ferland. They were married on November 29, 1944, in a double wedding ceremony shared with her brother Marcel. Thérèse and Louis were blessed with 7 children, Jocelyne, Marcelle, Paulette, Judith, Ronald, Norman and Jo-Ann. She was a homemaker her entire life. Thérèse worked hard to raise her family and was always there for them. She was up early to help get them ready for school, making dinner, helping with homework and putting them to bed. She was a wonderful cook and exceptional seamstress. Thérèse knew her share of tragedy, losing her first born daughter and cherished son Norman. But her love for family and her faith somehow gave her strength to love life without bitterness and instill in her family a gratitude for every day they have together. Her family and role as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother were the most important thing to her. She cherished the 72 years spent with her husband Louis, and their time spent together is nothing less than a great testament to their love for each other. Thérèse is survived by her loving family, husband of 72 years Louis Fournier; daughter Jocelyne (James) Gentile; daughter Marcelle McKee; daughter Paulette (Sam) Hawkins; daughter Judith (Cliff) Rutten; son Ronald (Penny); daughter Jo-Ann; her grandchildren Christine (Jim) Pirillo & children Alexandra, Samantha & Ryan, Paul (Lisa) McKee and Alison McKee, Guylaine (Owen) Green and children Garrett and Brianna Ostrosky, Arielle Green, André (Michelle) Pinsonneault and children Vincent and Simone, Ariane (Stéfan) Piché and children Ève and Amélie, François (Angie) Pinsonneault and children Sydney and Campbell, Justin Rutten, Leanne (Rob) Harasymchuk and children Ethan, Michael and Thomas, Mark (Kelsey) Rutten and son Nash; Mathiew Rutten, Jonathan Rutten, Marc Fournier and son Sabastian, Paul Fournier and children Chloé and Holden, Chantal (Adam) MacGillvray and children Ava, Breyah, Surrey and Callum, Elène (Soheil) Fournier and children Jude and Harlow, Maureen (Kevin) Grant and children Samantha and Sophie, Colleen and Jacqueline Bouvier; sisters-in-law Evéline (Lawrence) Janis, Lorraine Godberson, Lise (Charles) Brooks; and brother-in-law Gérard (Diane) Fournier.
