Obituary of Louis Fafard

Louis Marcel Joseph Fafard of Morse, SK, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at the age of 56. Louis was born on June 16, 1960, at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, to Norman and Liliane (nee Chorel) Fafard. He was born into a large family that included two older sisters, Lorraine and Lucy, twin brothers Gerald and Claude, sister Evelyn, and brothers Louis, Richard, and Daniel. Louis spent his youth with his siblings helping their parents run the family farm near Scout Lake, SK. He attended school in Lisieux, SK and Willow Bunch, SK. Louis was involved with numerous sports in his school days, including track, badminton, volleyball, basketball, ping pong, and shooting pool. He graduated from Willow Bunch in 1978, and went to work for a farmer in Mossbank. One day during the summer of 1978, Louis met Donna Schuweiler on main street in Mossbank. That was the beginning of their many adventures together. Louis and Donna were married on October 24, 1981, at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK, and were blessed with two children, Jared and Jessie. After working as a hired hand for a few years, Louis became an assistant with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool elevator in Scout Lake. Shortly after, his work took them to Coronach, and then Maxstone where he became an agent with the Wheat Pool. A few years later the Maxstone elevator was closed, and in the summer of 1984 Louis became the assistant operator at the elevator in Francis, SK. When not at the elevator, Louis was busy with yard work, building bins, tearing down old buildings, building new ones, town council meetings, and being a full time Dad. He was not one to stand still! After 14 years in Francis, Louis accepted a position at the Morse Wheat Pool as manager, and eventually moved over to the new Agricore United Terminal, which was then changed to the Reed Lake Richardson Pioneer Terminal. Louis's dedication to agriculture and his determination to provide his clients with the best experience possible is something he took great pride in. Despite his busy work life, Louis managed to find time to enjoy things that he loved. He was an avid hunter and looked forward to the fall season when he could get out into nature and scout what he was drawn for that year. He was also a sports fan and would talk about his favourite hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings, as if they were paying him as an advertiser. He also enjoyed recreational sports such as baseball, rec. hockey, tennis, and anything else that got him moving in the outdoors. Playing cribbage and other card games brought out his sense of humour. Music was also a big interest for Louis, from his teen life and into his later years, and some of his favourite artists were Bob Seger, John Cougar Mellencamp, and The Cars. Family was very important to Louis. He always made a strong effort to be part of family reunions, Christmas gathering, and other special occasions. As busy as Louis was, he always took time out of his day to teach Jared how to ride a bike, throw a ball, or take him out to ski-do in the winter months. Louis was also a strong advocate for his daughter Jessie. He spent many hours taking her for walks and caring for her. He was often on the phone planning Camp Easter Seal trips for Jessie, attending meetings for her well being, and in quiet times they would watch cartoons together. Louis was a giver and provider through and through, and was always willing to go above and beyond for his family. Louis was a light in this world, and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Louis is survived by his wife of 35 years Donna (nee Schuweiler); son Jared; daughter Jessie; brothers and sisters Lorraine, Lucille, Claude, Evelyne, Richard, and Daniel; father-in-law Bill; brothers and sisters-in-law Clayton, Karen, Glenda, Mark, Mary Anne, Diane, and Nancy. Predeceased by his parents Norman (2010) and Liliane (2011); brother Gerald (2003); mother-in-law Loraine (2002). Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 21, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Grace Community Church, Herbert, SK, with Pastor Lyndon Epp officiant. A poem was read by Jocelyn Harder. Musicians were Michael and Violet Beaudry, Laura Rodenhurst, and Jamie Sawatsky. The eulogy was shared by Jared Fafard. Pallbearers were Michael Beaudry, Nathan Fafard, Riley Fafard, Douglas Fafard, Arlen Legare, and Archie Legare. Interment took place on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lisieux Cemetery, Lisieux, SK. Memorial donations in memory of Louis to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2, were greatly appreciated.
