Obituary of Jeanne Louise Leduc

Jeanne Louise Yvonne Leduc of Assiniboia, SK passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016, at the age of 98. Jeanne was born on Labour Day, Monday, September 2, 1918, at 06-07-29-W2, in the Assiniboia District. She was the only daughter of Raymond and Lucie (nee Dussapt) Leduc, and had three older brothers and three younger brothers. As the natural historian for the family, Jeanne was the go-to person for details from the early days when the family lived on the homestead south of Assiniboia, then the next adventure to the farm at McCord, and finally to the farm at St. Claude, MB. Jeanne was always the glue that kept her family connected to each other. She had a fantastic memory for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, new babies born, graduation, and other events, and kept everyone up to date. She always appreciated and looked forward to any visits or phone calls from her nieces and nephews. Jeanne had a zest for life, an outstanding work ethic, a love of gardening, and a commitment to her Mom as she worked and lived in town with her in St. Claude, caring for her until she passed away in 1960. After the death of her mother, Jeanne decided to return to Assiniboia. She often traveled with cousins or sisters-in-law when she could over the years, and brought back stories of the families in France, the wonders of the Yukon, the magic of space travel as seen at Cape Canaveral, the mystery of the Holy Land - every place was a new adventure. Jeanne was always engaged in life, still picking crab apples, pickling beets, and making jam well in to her 90s. This lively mind continued, even once Jeanne moved into Ross-Payant Nursing Home two years ago. She knew this place well, as she had worked in the laundry there and at Pioneer Lodge for many years before retiring at the age of 65. Jeanne was a great role model to her family. She was a positive thinker and always had something kind to say. Through her actions, she reminded them to be sure to take the time to enjoy and value the company of family and friends, use your time wisely, and to be a good steward of your health. Jeanne was a deeply loved and respected sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. She lived a good, long, full life, and will be greatly missed. Jeanne is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Lucie (nee Dussapt) Leduc; brothers Charlie Leduc, Roger (Florida) Leduc, Henri (Philomene) Leduc, Robert (Berthe) Leduc, Jean Leduc, Julien Leduc; nephews Albert Leduc, Wayne Leduc, Paul Leduc, Guy Leduc; niece Louise Kutchall.
