Obituary of Gerald Legault

Gerald Donat Joseph Legault of Gravelbourg, SK, passed away on December 19, 2016, at the age of 83. He was born on February 9, 1933, in Gravelbourg. He was the third of eight children born to Donat and Ludivine (nee Morin) Legault. He attended school at the Sisters of Jesus and Mary Convent in Gravelbourg. Since 1941, the corner of Main and 6th Avenue East was known as the Legault Corner. The hardware business was started by Gerald's father and carried on by Gerald and his siblings, Germaine, Blanche, and Ted. Gerald enjoyed dealing with the community, selling new and used items, and offering a deal that couldn't be refused. The closing of Legault's hardware in Gravelbourg in 2002 marked the passing of an era in the history of the Legault family, and the town of Gravelbourg. Gerald retired upon the closing of the store. Gerald married Hélène Marchand on August 18, 1958. They were blessed with four sons, Marc, Paul, Jean, and Guy. Gerald and Hélène were avid travellers, and visited Israel, Turkey, England, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and many parts of Canada and the United States. Gerald loved fishing and going to the family cabin at Thomson Lake. He was an avid reader and collected saddles. He was fondly known as Bouncer, a nickname he received from the hockey ice, where his opponents would bounce right off of him. Gerald loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Gerald is survived by his son Marc Legault; son Paul Legault (Alison Degraves), granddaughters Alexis and Monica; son Jean Legault (Shannon Li); son Guy Legault, grandsons Luc and Matthieu; daughter-in-law Sheila Legault; siblings Lily LeBlanc, Germaine Legault, Leonard Legault, Laurette (Pierre) LaChapelle; brother-in-law Ben Pariseau; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Hélène (1992); parents Donat and Ludivine (Morin); sisters Jeannette (John) Szabo and Blanche Pariseau; brother Ted (Janet) Legault; sister-in-law Veronica Legault; brother-in-law Marcel LeBlanc. Funeral Mass was held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK, with Father Hope Klutsey celebrant. Cross bearer was Matthieu Legault. Readers were Jean Legault and Luc Legault. The eulogy was shared by Marc Legault. Soloist André Moquin was accompanied by organist Leona Bourgeois. Urn bearer was Guy Legault.
