Obituary of Norman STRIBBELL

Norman Lloyd James STRIBBELL of Meyronne, SK, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the age of 79 years. Norman was born in Kincaid, SK, on April 24, 1934, to Howard and Clara (nee Beecroft) Stribbell. As a boy, Norman was very crafty. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together to learn how they ran. When Norman was 17 years old he was working in the town of Burstall and became known as the best mechanic in the oil company he worked at. The superiors from the company offered Norman a job in Chicago, but he declined the offer to stay close to family and home. Because of his mechanic skills Norman worked for various companies, which eventually led to him opening up his own mechanic shop. On a yearly cattle drive he met Alice Hoehn and they were married on November 17, 1951. Norman enjoyed traveling with his wife, and they toured much of Canada and the United States. Norman had many hobbies and found interest in archaeology, antiques, gem stones, polishing different kind of stones and a particular interest in anything with history. He also raised and released pheasants back into the wild, wanting to help out the population. Norman enjoyed building tools and equipment right from scratch for the challenge, and he could fix almost anything, from toys to semis. One of his proudest accomplishments was converting a tanker truck into a fire truck for the community, which is still in use today. Norman was very self sufficient, running his shop in the daytime and maintaining his farm in the evenings; he was also an active member of the Meyronne Fire Department. Norman will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Norman is survived by his loving family, wife Alice of 62 years; son Howard (Jo); daughter Brenda; son Dennis; daughter Patti; son Gary (Patty); grandchildren Howard Jr., Terry, Derrick, Steven, Stephanie, Dwayne, Sharona, Tom, Landon and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth; daughters Sharon and Alice; parents Howard and Clara; two sisters and one brother. Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Meyronne Recreation Centre, Meyronne, SK, with Reverend Mathias Ross officiant. Pallbearers were Landon Glasrud, Tom Glasrud, Terry Stribbell, Derrick Stribbell, Tim Stribbell and Colin Smith. Private Family Interment took place at the Meyronne Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Norman to the Meyronne Recreation Centre, Box 85, Meyronne, SK S0H 3A0 and the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917 Albert St., Regina, SK S4R 2P6, were greatly appreciated.
